What are the 30 year old plus gamers playing?

50 year old here who remembers when Pong was new and exciting, first console was a Fairchild so you can say I've been around the block somewhat :-)

Treated myself to a £2k PC build earlier this year and my most played game is the 192 hours I have in Factorio since May, a game that would run on a Potato and cost all of £15. I've all but given up on triple A gaming these days and 90% of my time is spent in indie and left-field stuff.

Also playing Human Revolution (yes, the old one) and about to try Subnautica.

56 year old here, so I have been around the block and then some..!

I also have recently upgraded my PC with a 6700k running at 4.5, 16GB of DDR4 and a 1070 GTX. And what have I been playing recently.....

The Forest
7 Days to Die
Subnautica
How to Survive 2
Factorio - need to get into this one more.

I suppose trying to get back into Fallout 4 and pre-ordering Civ VI and Planet Coaster might actually stress the new bits that I bought. I'm kinda surprising myself here as to how much fun I have playing Indie stuff and not the typical AAA type titles that I would have previously been attracted to.

Makes the recent "upgrade" seem money well spent :D

31 here and playing a really small mix of random games

Rainbow Six Siege
World of Warships
Kancolle (Kantai Collection) (The proper Japanese one not the English clone)

Need to pick up Squad again now vehicles are in. As a old PR player this is my obligation lol

Just finished playing Singularity. Very good story driven game and the ending wasn't what I expected. Ravensoft don't exist anymore so a sequel is out of the question even though there is enough story left to warrant one

I didn't even look at the multiplayer side of things because for a 6 year old game don't expect anyone to be online.

6 year old graphics aside which doesn't even look too bad I give it a 8/10.

Having just finished Doom (2016), i've started on Company of Heroes 2 and will probably hit Dying Light after that.

36 here. av been absolutely hammering skyrim recently last time i played it, it was on ps3. patiently waiting on mafia 3.

I'm 40. I'm playing Overwatch. This mostly consists of dying spectacularly regularly whilst shouting "No way! You hacker!!" at the screen in the crushing certainty that no, he's not a hacker but rather in my decrepitude I now have the reaction time of a sloth.

I'm also playing Elite. I'm doing some exploring where I only need enough reaction time to stop me crashing into a sun. Perhaps this is to be the speed I play at from here on in.

The steady onslaught of time is a relentless master for the ageing gamer.....

I'm 40. ... I now have the reaction time of a sloth.

I'm not sure I buy my reaction time has dropped off enough that it makes me a bad gamer (at 41). Can we do a little experiment?

Now, I believe it used to be around 210ms in my youth, surely 40ms isn't that big a difference?

It says I'm in the top 71 percentile, which looking at the graph, I think it means I'm better than average, which seems a good result for my age.

Am I just abnormal or do you guys around my age score similar as well? Does gaming help keep us sharp?

I was sure, at 36, my reaction times had waned so much from when I was in my 20's playing Counter-Strike. 241ms is my average on 5 tries.

I think gaming keeps you sharp (but then we would say that, we're biased ;)) My audio-spatial awareness is really good, from years of listening for footsteps on CS, and if i knock something over I generally can catch it before it hits the floor. I'd much rather play a game than watch TV - more for my brain to do, which, in older age, will help us loads I think.

That seems reasonable. I don't know what you class as youth, but I'm 27 and averaged 197ms. I use to average in the 180s when I was in my teens.

40yrs here.

Playing Subnautica and only that. The sheer attention to detail in the world they've created is incredible. The game really does get VERY deep later on as you explore...

I keep looking at Subnautica..its one that I want to play. But I just cant pull the trigger on the buy button.

The thing thats holding me back is the lack of multiplayer. If they could just add multiplayer so that I can team up with the missus, I would hit that buy button in an instant.
