What Audiobooks are you listening to ?

IIRC audible state you don't have to keep up your sub to access your paid for audiobooks (you do for the "free" stuff). You would still need to log in with your audible account/use the app on your phone.

The Siege - Ben MacIntyre

Been listening to this on and off during long trips. Was familiar with the actual siege but the books provides interesting background on all aspects of the event, from how the terrorists where essentially pawns used by Sadam Hussain to flashbangs and CS/CR gas used by the SAS.

I've just got to the part where it's went all Pete Tong for the terrorists and it's now been handed over to the Military and the SAS given the go-ahead.

Looking forward to my next long drive.

Listening to Carl's Doomsday Scenario, Dungeon Crawler Carl book 2, and I'm loving it. I'm glad I keep an eye on this thread as I'd never have heard of this series otherwise.

I love the fact Princess Donut, in chat, keeps using CAPS even though she's been told and the person doing her voice shouts her chat.

Jeff is a narrating GENUIS! The amount of abuse we send him in the live streams is fantastic. ;) Always fun to make his lose it in the middle of a recording.

Re audible and access when your not subscribed. Can confirm you can access and everything remains the same basically.
You can download the books as well, but you need an audible compatible device to listen to them.
I do download all my books in batches every so often on the assumption that should audible go pop someone will make a crack tool available.

I cancelled my sub ( the 24 book one) this year as I had too many books queued up to read. They then sent me an offer for a 3 book 99p trial lol.
So currently I am awaiting month 3 to trigger and will then cancel again.

If you do go to leave they do make you offers to stay by the way which are better than anything you can normally get.

I am now waiting on the next Dungeon crawler carl book, early 25 I believe.
Back to he who fights monsters book 8 now.

Just back from holiday and I found that DCC was easier listening when your constantly getting a drink or someone is talking to you, where as HWFM is harder to just drop as the passages are longer. Eg fights can take 15-20 minutes which is very rare (bar pretty much end of level) with DCC.
I have the Wandering Inn book 1 lined up for next.

Just listened to The Wandering Inn volume 1.
Interesting litrpg and from a very prolific author. Also the books are loooooong
Did become quite invested in the characters, one annoyed me, but the rest I liked and was a bit sad when [no spoilers] ;)

I'm out of subscription right now so wont be listening to book 2 for a while I guess as I have something like 40 other books to listen to so don't want to resub and buy and more for now.
Will certainly buy book 2 at some point though.

Trying to decide between primal hunter 1, he who fights monsters 9 or a column of fire.

If Amazon offer me another audible trial ( thats what happened last time after I cancelled my sub) then I will bet wandering Inn book 2 for sure :)

Just started Dungeon Crawler Carl book 5, The Butcher's Masquerade.

I have to say this is probably the best book series I've listened to and that's saying something given I listed to all the, current, Expeditionary Force books one after the other over many months. Once I finish DCC, 1 more after this one then a new book out in a week or so, I will probably listen to He Who Fights Monsters and after that, @Mercenary Keyboard Warrior mentioned a series I've not heard of, The Wandering Inn. The first book is free to me, currently and may not be when I get to it, but damn that series has some long arsed books. I think my listening for the next year or so is line up. I'll have to get the 24 book sub and get the lot and then maybe cancel Audible till I'm done.

Currently on book 5 of He Who Fights With Monsters relisten. Not sure when book 12 is coming out on Audible yet. Will be going to DCC for a complete relisten once book 7 is released on the 11th Feb.

After them, I have another series to listen to. Beware of Chicken. Book 4 was released recently and I missed it. So will give that a listen too. Also have the Noobtown series to go through.

I resubbed my audible so that I have a credit ready for DCC 7 in a week.
I used a resub link I found, so I am signed up for 3 months at £3.99 a book (which is just a fraction cheaper than the £110 24 book annual sub)
I am told that if you go to cancel you will get the £3.99 offer again.
The two times I have cancelled Audible before I did get that offer.

I was hanging out for the audible trial, but apparently that has a one year cooldown and I had only just had one.

As I will be getting 3 credits, I will probably get DCC7, HWFWM 12 (if its out in time) plus Wandering Inn 2. If HWFWM isnt out them probably the next reacher book I need to listed too.

Will try hard then to make it a year and do another trial. I checked and I have 83 books to listen too!

Just finished Paradox Bound by Peter Clines.
It was decent enough to make my commute a little more enjoyable (7/10).
Made all the better with the narration by the great Ray Porter.

Just started Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. I weanted to get this under my belt before the movie, (Mickey 17), comes out.

I've started listening to Mythos read by Stephen Fry - I'm enjoying it so far, I used to read some mythology when I was younger and this is a good way to get back into it.

I like Peter Clines' work. He's an interesting writer.
And Ray Porter could make a shopping list engaging.

I was going to start Crypotonomicon until I saw it was about 45 hours long... I'm not sure how to approach that.

Working my way through some of the free offerings on Audible.
"The Pilot" by Michael Cole. Fun. Rips off huge sections of Predator but then goes it's own way and becomes quite interesting. I listened to a couple of his other works. Daft B-movies in audio format.
"The Downloaded". Told as a series of interviews. Genuinely engaging mix of mild sci-fi and human interest. Not very deep but I enjoyed where it went. Even what could be construed as a "woke" element was subtle and effective, not as ham-handed as some stories are. Oh, and it's lovely to hear Brendan Fraser's voice again.
