What book are you reading...

Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds

Used to read a lot of scifi when I was younger but for some reason I moved to fantasy for a long time.

It's good to be back! About half way through and loving it :)

The George Blake autobiog, 'No Other Choice'. mmmm, really? Fascinating read from the KGB superspy though, and very well written. His escape from Nazi occupied Holland as a teenager is riveting. Lets see, already getting that 'Albert Speer' doubt in my mind, but I possibly have no other choice?

The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn: Kingdom of Grit, Book One
by Tyler Whiteside

It s a sort of cut-price Lies of Loch Lamora. Not bad so far but at over 700 pages its early days yet.

Given I loved the first Gentleman Barstewards book (Lies of LL) and found the sequels to date fine and dire respectively, should I give this a go?

Absolutely love this series of books and the scope is immense. I've read all the books in this series a few times and will do so again at some point. There are also a number of great short stories.

Away from Revelation Space you have Zima Blue, which is one of the Love, Death, Robots animations (thread nearby for now) from the first series and a lot of other stories. The best for me is House of Suns which takes the time lapse / travel of Revelation Space and magnifies it over generations.

Well I am enjoying Ardor Benn - so yes I would say give it a go. Maybe not as classy as LL but the characters are interesting as is the unique magic system.

Magician - Another book I discovered from reading this thread. :)
Enjoying it a lot so far, half way through and can sense things ramping up so it's definitely my go to book at the moment.

Same here, i found the first trilogy very good and i just finished the Empire trilogy, another very good read.
Just wondering if its worth reading on further, i have the next trilogy on my Kobo, The Riftwar Legacy

The Serpentwar Saga is the next series of books after the Empire Trilogy. They are well worth reading. You should read this before The Riftwar Legacy.

Personally I thought the books he wrote after the Serpent War Saga aren't even close to been as good as his earlier stuff.

There are a couple of standalone books that you could also read before the Serpent War Saga, Prince of Blood and the King's Buccaneer.

I am trying to read them in chronological order and from what i can see the first book of the Serpent War, a certain character is dead, whilst in the Riftwar Legacy this character is alive.
I know the recommended reading order is as they were published. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Riftwar_Cycle
This is the reading order i am following so far http://www.crydee.com/raymond-feist/reading-order/chronological

Ah, ok, most people reading them for the first time read them in order they were released. I would love to know what you think of the Riftwar Legacy compared to the Riftwar Saga. For me there was break because I read the Serpent War Saga first. But, you are going to be reading more of the same, just worse(IMO)

I fear you are correct.
So far Krondor the betrayal is not a patch on the other books.
About 100 pages in, and it's so formulated and predictable it's boring. It's like writing by numbers :(
Seriously thinking of abandoning it and jumping to the serpent war saga.

You are just after reading 6 books that are up there with the best fantasy novels ever. And now you are trying to read a very average fantasy novel. I can see why you would be disappointed, surprised you even lasted 100 pages!!!

For me, the RiftWar legacy was readable because I hadn't read anything by Feist in a few years. So I was just happy to get back into the world of Midkemia. But, even though I was able to finish the Riftwar Legacy, I didn't think it was that good. In fact, I haven't bought another Feist book since then.

I just read If It Bleeds by Stephen King- four short stories. It was ok as a time-passer, but none of them have stuck in my memory.

Pretty disappointing on the whole, as I generally rate King's short stories quite highly.

Ah, these books are great. I loved reading all of the revelation space universe books. Also loved house of suns and pushing ice by Alastair Reynolds.

I just finished the 'Three Body Problem' and moving on to the 'Dark Forest'. I'll read book 3 in the series 'Deaths End'.

I also have the 'left hand of darkness' lined up after.

Finally finished the last of the Faithful and the Fallen quadrilogy by John Gwynne. What a superb series that was, going to go straight into his next series.
