What did you do to your bike today?

jGxeRWB.jpg

In the process of removing the back wheel so I can get to the rear brake master cyclinder and replace the hoses.

Anyone know any places that do brake fluid pipe (non-pressurised)? The old pipe i've had the fluid has bled through the walls. I'm going to have to touch up a bit of the frame where the pipe was resting on it (you can see the silver ring where I've sanded off the rust, that was a zip tie, the fluid obviously went the whole way round that) :(

Mine did the same and that was full throttle most of the time! I'd say it probably had a tiny petrol generating device in there :D. I did enjoy my CBF days, I don't miss the lack of power though! It'd make an amazing town bike, but I've always lived out in the country/quiet towns so most of my riding is national speed limit country roads. Wouldn't like to do my current commute on a CBF!

Yer I commute in and out of Manchester each day so struggling to justify getting anything bigger. I want to but I still enjoy it.

Wouldn't mind more oomph off the line but 99% of the time it's fine.

Spent a couple of hours cleaning this:

to get it looking like this:

And adjusting it, was pretty slack before.

Not 100% clean but 100x better than it was! Took off the front sprocket cover and although the rear sprocket and chain had been changed a couple of months ago by the previous owner, the front hadn't and is pretty worn, so that's a job for another weekend.

Put some dry lube on it for now, I'll get a tutoro or Scott oiler automatic oiler in a few weeks, seeing as I'm doing 200 miles a week commuting.

@Fireskull - Nice man, loving them forks, look and bet they're splendid... good to see you've got some parts hideen in garage as well... good luck fella and keep posting, we wanna see the beasty back!!!

Well, I've finished my back off... finished the seat properly as I had to cut the rear pegs off and bolt the remainder back onto the bike to get the tail fairing back into the correct bracket... fitted STOMP tank grips, look nice... fitted new license plate as old one was looking tired... and new heel plates... productive day me thinks!

Looking good Fireskull. Looking nice & neat in that second last photo. Bet you can't wait to get back on it! What are you riding at the moment, or are bikes a hobby/summer activity (aka you have a car to commute with)?

Thanks :)
Nothing at the moment, my bike 'was' my commuter, and for this year it will be a track day hobby until I sort something else out :p
But yes just commute in my car for now.

Loving the progress mate, looks great!

What information did you supply to 100% for them to work on? i.e. did you just give them riding style or weights etc?

Not tempted to give it a full strip down with the engine out to get everything clean? Or do you not have time?

Keep it up mate :)

no so much did to but did on....

late night ride back in a hurry the other other day :edit <"brisk pace"> on the motorway, large amount of standing water in a curve i didn't see front wheel aqua planned went full right lock to full left lock before i forced it straight again fortunately before the puddle ran out and hit the tarmac again.

That was scary as hell. why in gods name do they turn the lights of on the motorway late at night

Yeah you need to give weight and riding style, I said fast road/track so we will see how it performs, I need the rear setting up now anyway so I guess whoever is on track can check the front also :p

Tempted but no time, track day is next tuesday, only had 1 day this weekend to do any work and if I do it next weekend I can guarantee something will go wrong or break and wont be able to get parts before the TD :p
So next weekend I will be painting and fitting the track fairings and making sure everything is tightened correctly :D

Rode it cleaned it polished it then took it out again this evening for another run, Have to say this evening has been the nicest evening of the year so far.

Well not to bike, but decided to make some custom plugs to see if any good... came out pretty darn well... however, if I'm honest they fit realllllyyy nice, but it effects the sound... even though tunneled I found that by doing them with mouth open or shut... screws sound up when they're finished. Did two sets... one with mouth open... however when set with speakers, whenever you close your mouth the sound deadens as the rubber moves... the second set I did mouth closed... then when you open mouth... sound deadens...

So... maybe I need to cut a little more away from them... look sweet though hey :-)

Almost lost the back end on the way home from work yesterday.

Coming round the the A1/A507 junction where i like to hoon it a bit. I always change gear leaning into the left corner (risky) onto the A507 toward Stotfold. This time it slipped back into the original gear and the back end slid, Rossi-esque.
Stood it up ok and carried on with my buttocks firmly clenched the rest of the way...

You ride around a lot with your mouth open? :)

Yeah it's how I breath lol :-) Seriously I don't really breath through nose, I breath mostly throuh mouth so wanted to get two sets to see if it affects the plugs... it does... as your jawline is at a different angle :-)

Plus, it's coming into Summer and the skirts and cleavage is out, so yeah... mouth will be on dribble alert lol

Just booked myself my first track day on the bike... done a few in cars, but need to get this thing on the track.. Oulton Park... June... and got a 15% discount as well... if you use MSVT and use "April15" in the promo code. Just hope the bike will get through the noise test... did a test last year using the phone with a DB checker... was hitting 97DB but how accurate these are who knows... and I have no baffle to put in it either so... I'll be stuffed... need an accurate measurement really...

EDIT: Also, while I think on, be wary in Wales this summer... I've seen TWO unmarked Police Bikers now... they have hi-vis jacket but the bikes are pure BLACK... with only POLICE on the visor to distinguish... when out riding, you can easily get caught out... I nearly did last week about to rattle past one... and it was only when he turned I realised he was a copper... good job I didn't blat past.

WALES is always appalling for coppers trying to spoil out days out... just a warning guys. Obviously we all ride to speed limits on here as we're law abiding citizens ;-) (Disclaimer complete lol)

We should all just go out, 6pm Friday/Saturday nights, that's the best time in the summer as they're all back in the town and cities picking p*ssed people out of dorrways... seriously you never ever see them out post 6pm...

Drained the old oil out of the RSV. It's done hardly any miles since it was MoT'd last summer, think I went out on it 4 times max. Won't start as I flooded it a few weeks ago when trying to kindle her up and haven't had a chance to sort that by popping the tank, removing the plugs and drying them out. I'm kinda in a bit of a 'Catch 22' situation here - Generally it is suggested that you run a bike up to operating temp then let it cool for a few minutes before whipping the sump plug out and draining the oil as it means the oil drains more effectively as it's thinner when hot. On the other hand, the oil has been sat in my bike's sump for almost 12 months through winter so I'm not sure it is a great idea to try and start it with that stuff in there anyway, it'll be like treacle by now. But that said, I can't get the bike started as yet anyway until I've sorted the plug issue out. So I just whipped the drain plug out and removed the filter, will leave it draining overnight before filling it with lovely fresh Motul Synthetic.
