What did you do to your bike today?

My commute to work has a few twisty bits in it that were horrible on my 125 constantly up and down gears and then coming out of a corner up an incline and having nothing there to get me up it, the only time I have to change gear now is if I'm stuck behind a lorry!
0-60 in under 3.5 secs is quite nice too :D

I know that pain, or when you're travelling on bigger roundabout where speed limit is 50mph and you have shuffle through gears before getting onto it... :(

BTW I saw this today, I wonder how true this is?

probably, kawasaki already have the ninja 300,yamaha have the r3

I would love a MT250-390 (I know MT03 falls into A2, but its ugly/small :p), not sure if a bike without restrictions such as the Z300, Ninja 300 and other are a better choice than something like ER6-F or MT07 with restrictions. hmm...

Makes more sense to me to pick up something bigger you can restrict as it's just one less cost when you come to pay for your A licence.

Another issue is my height, most of those 250-300's are small. I rode Ninja 250R on the meetup and it had less leg room and the seat was lower than my KTM. :(

I nailed it down to SV650S, ER6-F and MT07 so far, although I hate that headlight in the MT07...

BTW does anyone know how much certified restriction would cost?

I've ridden the ER6N for my training and I've obviously got the SV650S but I can't really help with how they'd be for someone tall as I'm a proper short arse :D

SV650 is easily the best bike on that list.

After getting used to the wildly different riding position going to the sporty set up of the SV I definitely prefer it over the ER6, much nicer handling, seems to pull a lot better and lets face it it's a pretty piece of kit.

I haven't really test ridden anything properly, ridden some bikes up and down the street. But that's not enough to see whenever you like it or not.

The ER6 seems to get mixed reviews, I'm referring to the newer ER6 2012+. But apparently its an improvement from the previous gen.

SV650 is easily the best bike on that list.

Why is that?

MT-07 is a lovely looking bike, I'm going to test one once I've done my DAS. :)

That engine noise and it does a burnout on such low rpms. :D

Edit:

why not stick with your 125 till you pass your test and jump straight on a big bike/unrestricted

I would have to wait 5 years for my DAS, so nope. Doing A2 and then something upto 47BHP.

BTW Honda CB400 was not originally sold in the UK, right?

The SV is better (In my view) as it has more character, feels/handles better and has a much better sound than the vibratey parallel twin engine on the ER6

Nope, that's what I have (although a later vtec version), they're all Jap imports. You can actually buy them brand new in Australia, under their learner scheme (LAMS) it's the best bike new riders can ride. There's a few of the mid-90's ones about in the UK, they're dirt cheap to buy/insure/ride. My Vtec version is rare as rocking horse poo, only ever seen one other and no others for sale.

Mine was 52BHP from the factory so would still need a very slight restriction, even though it's probably around 40bhp now after 14 years.

If you can find one, and sort the restriction, they're great little bikes.

Oh okay, I might go for the SV650S than, the fairings will help on longer journeys.

I thought so :( , I really like that bike. Any pictures of yours? :D

I done Brighton and back on mine the other weekend which ended up around 450 miles all together and once you get tucked down behind the screen all wind blast disappears, the motorway munching would have been a lot less fun on a naked bike!

ahh I keep forgetting your young

try a test ride on the er6 though, they seem a decent bike to me,they rubber mounted the engines after 2012 I think which improved the vibes a lot

From just after I picked it tup, it has a lovely scrape on one side of the tank now due to a locked from wheel back in February, oh and new stainless exhaust and silcencer.

Bit dirtier now too, but then it does loads of miles in all weathers.
