What did you do to your bike today?

Someone will have to explain insurance to me one day as I've been doing quotes and my slow Honda NC700s is a good £150 more expensive to insure than a 2012 Kawasaki ER6F which is not only arguably more desirable but also much quicker.

Looks like a Kawasaki Ninja 250/300, KTM Duke 200, Honda CBR 250 or a Suzuki Inazuma will only cost me between £400-500 quid for the year.

Odd... it's normally the sports bikes that make insurance ridiculous for new/younger riders. Not sure why something like the NC700 is higher than the ER6F. I guess their stats on it say people fall off them more often .

£400-500 sounds a lot for a smaller bike like the ones you've mentioned. I got my Hornet insured TPFT for £250 when I was 21 which is more powerful than both those and a similar sort of bike. There's something weird going on there, especially if your age in your profile is right. Have you tried on GoCompare/Confused?

Heads up for anyone wanting some merino wool base layers - Aldo have them from tomorrow at £16 each.

They work really well, I wear the some (mountain warehouse ones) under my kevlar jeans and they cut out the wind when it gets in up your leg, they keep you just right, not too cold or too warm. :) I'll be picking up a set.

I'd imagine they do work very well, would like to get some, but what do you do if commuting? Sit in them at work all day? :/

I'm guessing London is the biggest factor. London + new rider? Bend over please sir... :p

And yeah it'll be down to higher cost to repair, or more people claiming on NC700's - which goes with them being a popular commuter bike, lots of small claims for dropped bikes.

Insurance is weird, so I was curious about how much a KTM RC 390 would cost and most of the quotes were coming up at around £2100+ which is what I was expecting but then.

I don't think I'll be buying one though.

No reason why not - I wear my kevlar jeans all day at work with the armour in, you'd be the only one who knew you were wearing base layers under your jeans.
Do you really get shafted that bad just being in London? That sucks, never moving there then!
You must be aware London is the worst place in the UK for motorbike theft? Apparently, 26,000 bikes are stolen per year in the UK, with 50% of them stolen in London. If I lived in London, and didn't have a garage, there's no way I'd own a nice bike. It'd be when, not if, it gets stolen.

Er... get changed? :p

Nahh, way too much hassle!

lots of f's in London

none in Birmingham im surprised and that's a bad area

B here. Awww yeah :D

I was in an E area for a while, insurance price didn't change (even after someone tried to nick the insurance company's courtesy bike I had after I got knocked off lol) which was weird.

I'm not bothered about anyone knowing I have base layers on, but sat inside all day I'd get incredibly uncomfortable and probably sweaty :/

Are you a new rider stovepipes?

I've just done a quote based on the last one I did, for a K1200s, 10k per year, licence held for a year and 1 years NCD, garaged. From Maidstone in kent to Stratham in London it only increased by £100, quite shocked by that. Or maybe I just chose a decent postcode in london by accident :D

Cheers!

Don't get RC390, its slow... it takes like 7 seconds to hit 62mph. I'm now looking at V-Twins, torque is really good even whilst the bike is restricted! :D

Look what came in post today! The delivery was amazingly quick, stuff from China to my house usually takes 3-4 weeks... :p

Ordered 15 sep and it came in on 23rd (today.), if you ask me that's pretty quick. I wasn't charged any additional fees, it was delivered by Yodel.

Ooooh, now get out there and get some test footage! Make sure the focus is accurate, there's been some where the focus hasn't been set correctly and everything is out of focus. You'll probably want to do a firmware update too, does the front LED flash when recording?

At £48 shipping from the EU I can see me buying one of these. What case did you get?

I've had my Licence since March but I guess the accidents and theft haven't helped.

I'm getting some footage tomorrow from EGX! You'll see a ***** with head mount and Xaomi Yi walking around haha :p

I'll do the firmware update and see if its out of focus once I charge it, currently the battery is at 10%...

Edit

This is where I bought my stuff from, the site is called GearBest

Xiaomi Yi
40M Waterproof Case
Head mount
Helmet Mount

I'll be ordering a selfie stick from that site as I earned nearly 4 dollars credit by purchasing from them, I don't mind waiting as my package was shipped out within 3 days from ordering and it came in less than 2 weeks! I'll surely be using GearBest from now on. :D

Ahh, you're confusing them with normal thermal base layers.

Merino wool base layers are very light and thin, when you're sweating and hot they wick sweat away from your skin and hold onto it so you don't get sweaty (perfect for riding when it's 25+ degrees) and they regulate your temperature, i.e. keep you cool when it''s warm and keep you warm when it's cold. It's a thermal layer but also breathable.

I can wear them round the house and be lovely and cosy and warm, but not too warm. It's amazing stuff, merino wool, worth having a read up about. Merino base layers are designed for runners/cyclists as they not only keep you warm or cool but also wick sweat away from your skin.
