What did you do to your bike today?

Are those the three wires that go from the stator to your rectifier? If so I havnt had a bike yet that hasn't melted those

Your doing well its a big job, something I wouldn't fancy doing

Lucky I have a friend who used to race SVs so I've paid him with beer to give me a hand :D

Nice job :D

My SV always looks like that in the back garden! Really need to sort the carbs out again and get it MOT'd, maybe this weekend.... been telling myself that for years...

I've got an engine going spare if you want it? It just needs a mounting bolt & exhaust stud drilling out..and the crank sorting out :p

Should be a good upgrade then!

Yeah I liked the Dunlop Sportsmart Sportsmax or whatever they are called but yeah not particularly soft, its amazing how a new set of tyres can change the whole feel of a bike and your own confidence.

Regarding my issue with the weeping brake fluid leak from my bleed nipple. Swapped the new one for the old nipple off my other caliper, and a little of plummers tape on the threads for piece of mind, so hopefully that is cured :D

He sent me a full set of seals, for both calipers so I have a set spare which is nice. That will be my next job.

When people say the brakes on the sv are terrible, I disagree. Before I did the caliper and mc overhaul, they stopped quite well, but you was 30-40% through the lever till you found the power. But now the pressure is there instantly and not spongy at all. Overall, very happy!

Winter task is an oil and filter change, and fit my integrated rear light with indicators. Going to go for a k&n oil filter as I rate there quality and easy spanner removal. Can anyone recommend any oil brand? Will be 10w40, silkolene or what ever you call it good?

Cheers wazza.

eBay results show 4l of the stuff for £29 which is nice, and price is very similar to other brands.

Edit: Any way to remove caliper pistons when they are pushed in all the way to the caliper when the caliper is off the bike? I know you can compress air them out, but don't have access to one?

They are hard to get out, there's a piston removal tool looks like a pair of pliers that grips the inside but idk how good they are

Best way is to hook it up to the brake line, bleed it and let it push them out far enough, wedge a socket in so it pushes each piston out far enough to pull out yourself

That's what mine were like, it turned out only 2 of the 8 pistons (2x 4 pot calipers) were moving properly, with 2 or 3 more moving but rectracing back in after releasing the lever. My brakes were nothing for the first 2 inches of lever movement and then everything in less than an inch. Now I have a nice firm lever (wink wink nudge nudge ;) :D) and loads more stopping power.

Yeah same issue as I had. What calipers have you got? You got sv1000 or sv650 with mounting plates to use different calipers?

The difference is night and day. Not sure if calipers were the issue or mc, but because I ain't had the bike from new, I decided to do the full lot.

I always quite liked the looks and I did my DAS on the naked version so I'm quite fond of it. I've seen ex-demo bikes for around £5500 so not too expensive either but the way things have gone recently it's way outta my price range now.

Anything above 4K at this moment is out of my budget (if it was new I could probably stretch to 4.7-5k), I'll probably try to buy something for under 4k. I still can't make my mind up on what type of bike to buy, I still have time tho.

Good luck, it'll be a shame if you stopped riding because of some stupid insurance. ;)

Dat weight reduction bro! :p

Edit

I swear KTM is purposely engineering things to discourage you from repairing or changing anything on their bikes.

Nope, Honda CB400 - so the 4 pot nissin non radial calipers which are on many different early 00's hondas - early cbr600rr, 954 fireblade etc.

They're mighty strong brakes now they're sorted, but they weren't prior to that. I stripped and rebuilt both calipers. Mind you my bike is nearly 15 years old so they were overdue a rebuild.

IC3 - Suzuki are doing some good deals on new SV650's - £4500 for a brand new bike, 2 years warranty, no MOT for 3 years...

Any links? :)

BTW I've some funny footage from EGX, I'll do some night video editing.

Edit

Dropped my helmet today from a knee level, the thing is that the concrete outside my house has those little stones which scratched it a little... looks worse than what it actually was.

Have a look on autotrader (under sv650 and sv650s) and ebay - loads on there. Not sure if there's any local to you, but there's some deals around for sure.

Edit - also FYI anyone picking up those merino wool base layers from Aldi - I went for the medium in the top and bottoms as i'm a lanky and skinny git (6ft 3, 12 stone, 34" waist), the top is perfect - the bottoms are very snug... being designed for cycling they're very 'form fitting' so if you have normal size legs and waist I'd go for a large.

Thanks, going back to the layers I've jeans form Next which are 32" waist, should I go for medium or large?

Xiaomi Yi 1080p 30fps - Without focus fix, the cable is coming, I searched everywhere locally and the cheapest was 10 quid for a 0.8m cable, how do those electronical shops stay in business?

I'm hoping I might get some time this weekend to have a go at fitting my new mono shock and front springs, had a flick through my Haynes manual last night and it talks about needing something like a table vice to be able to properly pump the old fork oil out is it really required?
