What did you do to your bike today?

Not too expensive either - 2000 miles is roughly £200 worth of fuel, Eurotunnel is about £75, 11 nights of accommodation/camping at £10 a night for camping and £20-30 for a hotel/b&b for a couple of nights is £150, that makes £425, so say £500 - then just food, beer and spending money. Nearly 2 weeks away in the alps for £500 + spending money? Yes thanks! :D

This stuff gets me through the winter nights :p I love camping when touring as it brings down the cost loads, paying £30-40 a night for hotels/B&B soon bumps up the cost vs paying a tenner a night camping.

But camping in winter especially in the alps is just crazy. :p Why not look for private room rentals, should be cheaper? Although you never know what kind of person you might come across. :p

to the Juan pass

And you'll be 15 minutes from my house!

I've looked at avoiding Swiss motorways but in the end I think it's just easier to buy a Vignette! Kreee - I presume 'keine vignettenpflicht' which translates to 'no toll sticker' means you don't need the vignette for that motorway? I know the motorway sign is the same as the UK but only green, presumably the ones that don't say 'keine vignettenpflicht' you need a vignette sticker for??

I've not seen any motorways with any signs like that here. I have seen them on roads that look like motorways but aren't though.

If it's not here, you don't need the vignette: http://www.autobahnen.ch/index.php?lg=001&page=014

Cheers, yeah looks like I'll need one - makes life easier tbh! at the moment the route is Basel - Biel/Bienne - Bern to the Juan pass and it's easier on the main roads. Ignore the campsite bit, there's friggin loads! Just picked one out of the air at Interlaken, right on the lake - 10 euros a night. Bargain :D

I guessed you were that end of the alps from your videos ;) there's a few passes round there I'd want to do, grimsel pass, susten pass, st bernard pass (stopping to buy a fluffy dog at the top :p) etc so seems like a good place to make home for an extra night.

Camping in the Alps in summer can't be any worse than 0 degrees overnight in Exmoor!

And on another note - random coincidence - my works xmas party is a weekend away in France, in a place called... Deauville! Looks a lot nicer than it's Honda namesake though!

But I mean that literally. Jaunpass is the closest pass to where I live.

Is your wife Swedish? I don't know why, I always thought she was French from the motovloggs. But than I'm really bad with recognising accents... : |

She's Swiss, the primary language is French in about a third of Switzerland.

Paul, if you want to meet up I can take you through the following mountain pass route: Les Mosses, Col du Pillon, Jaunpass

You can see them in video form too:

There is another, better set of passes too: Grimsel, Furka, Susten

Videos for those will be coming over the next 6 weeks ;)

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. Lots of Swiss seem to know English very well too, do you speak French/Swedish or can you get away with English there?

You guys should both record your meet, that would be pretty cool. Dual-motovlog :D

No one speaks Swedish as we're not in Sweden :p

You can only get away with English in the nasty places in Switzerland, Zurich and Geneva. Here I have to speak French as no one speaks English.

I really should get some sleep, I've been doing assigments for the past couple days till late...

Switzerland, I get ya :D

'tis a long way away but I'll keep that in mind, would be great to meet up with a 'local' :D The grimsel and susten are already on my list, tbh ALL the roads in that area are great by the look of street view!!

Didn't you meet up with another OCUK'er and mention on a video he missed the best passes? :D
