What did you do to your bike today?

How much do similar age/mileage cb500's go for privately? Might be worth selling private?you'll get more than a dealer would offer you

Just looked on autotrader and there are only 9 CBF500s for sale, the prices are mad, from dealerships they are £2k+?? I bought mine for £1300.

Depends if your in a rush or not? You'll always find the bike you want for sale, you could ask for £1300? Stick some part worn tyres on it and offer to put mot on for the buyer

Hmm I dunno I'm temped just to go for it because I can't be bothered with hassle of sorting my bike and selling it. I did look at another one which was £2300 for a 2007 but the place was rather dodgy and the bloke didn't know what he was on about so I thought nah.

I did sit on a 2003 Fazer at another place which felt like a good bike and was £2250, but it doesn't really do it for me somehow.

What year is your CBF and how many miles? Don't forget the CBF500 is one of the best commuter bikes out there, they go on for miles and miles and miles.

There's one on ebay with 125,000 miles, sold as seen by a trader, for £900.

SV650's are plentiful, and this time of year (especially around xmas) dealers will be dead so looking to do any business they can.

Best advice wold be don't get the first you see, have a look at a few. That's if you're set on an SV650 ;)

It's 2005 with 27k miles, no service history. The guy just looked at the price in a book, do you think it would get the px up if I tell him to take a look at autotrader?

No IMO,hell want it as cheap as poss

I'd also buy private rather than a dealer as well, provided you go look the bike over ect

Nah, they generally go off book prices - but some places will offer a little more or reduce the cost of the bike you're buying, always worth shopping round. They'll be making £500+ profit on your bike if you part ex'd at £800.

Any why the change? it's not a leap in power, or newer - just shinier?

I want something more interesting, it's a fine bike but I only bought it because it was local and cheapish, never liked the looks and I have to have a goofy screen on it for long journeys.

I'd actually like a CBR600 but then it's paying quite a bit for an older bike and insurance is also a bit of a killer. SV650 just seems great on paper and I like the fairing but the bottom is open so it's easy to do things myself etc.

That's cool, nothing wrong with wanting something nicer :)

At £2-3k there's not much apart from run of the mill commuters (I've done loads of looking when I was looking for my first big bike) but if you had a little more budget it opens up a fair few much more interesting bikes.

Street triples are now £3500-4000
Aprilia Shiver can be had for not much over £3k (2011 with 2500 miles for £3690
BMW F800S/ST for £3500

All those are decent insurance as they're naked bikes.

Not sure what price range/years you're looking at but my two mates both had the CBR600RR (2008 and a 2011) and both said that my ZX-6R (2010) felt much more aggressive.

both commented on the steeper/lower bars, more rake and the fact it was the first 600 to really throw them back in the seat. I've ridden both of their CRBs and if I'm honest they felt very different. Not in a bad way but it felt light on at the front (and maybe a little easier at slower speeds) probs due to ability to sit slightly more upright on the bike but defo didn't feel as quick although had no issues keeping up ;) ;)

Interesting info, thanks :) when you say more aggressive, do you mean power delivery? Was your zx-6r your first bike and would you recommend it as one? :)

First real bike was the 2010 ZX6R.

As for aggressive, both my friends and I thought the position of the rider on my ZX6R was more race/track orientated. Not that there was more weight on your arms but you defo feel lent over more with the handle bars being lower/more angled down. I did find the ZX6R easier to hold with my knees and once up to speed it was nicer and more brutal on the acceleration. The CBR's were not slow though but just delivered the power differently. It had just as much power but didn't need to change gear as often.

They did however get a lot more miles out of one tank than I did. I did two top ups in a day to their one.

Edit: And yes, I'd recommend one. Lucy puts a smile on my face every time I take her out of the garage :D

I love my SV. I now have no fairing at the bottom for the same reasons, but it used to be full faired (may get belly pan).

They are even more fun when you put a nice after market exhaust on it...for saftey of course ;)

Nearly 3k for a 10yr old SV coming up to 30k miles and no service history!?

They'll be having your pants down and not in any sort of pleasurable way.

That bike is worth 2k max and even that is at the high end, has it at least got some pretty aftermarket stuff to try and justify that price?

That's his CBF500, the SV650 is 2005 with 8k miles.

Thanks for that :) is yours the 600 or 636?

I'm listing my bike for sale tonight, hope it sells quickly! Figured I'd rather sell it now privately, keep the money aside and then go out and pick what I want, easier for me that way, I won't be using my bike much before Christmas anyway, if I get caught out with bad weather it'll be a struggle getting it home, it's all up hill and my house sits at the top :( :p
