What did you do to your bike today?

LOL, insurance companies.

I'm with Bennetts currently for my CB400, insurance runs out 29th December and i haven't had my renewal letter through yet, so thought i'd do some quotes.

Compare the market £143 and bennetts apparently won't quote... so direct on their website - correct DOB and yet it has me as 9 years younger than I am, and quotes £550 :o:rolleyes: TPFT too

Bike insurer - wicked quotes (underwriter is ERS who I'm currently with) come out as cheapest, at £98 for the year with £150 excess, TPFT (FC is £184), 10k a year, 1 years NCD, licence held a year, riding other bikes.

Job done. I'll see what Bennetts come up with if they ever send me a letter for renewal! But looks like I'll be paying under £100 again this year :D :p

I actually have a years NCD from my 125 and I'll have the same on the Honda policy (preparing for having 2 bikes) so may as well use the NCD from the 125, it'll reset the expiry too (NCD expires if not used for 2 years).

lol

I miss riding, lately it felt like it was spring not winter. Sunny and dry without any winds, I saw so many bikes... Today it was a bit chilly, but nothing too crazy.

I'm seriously considering MT07 or SV650A, just waiting for a review of the SV650A. The SV650 has been out for years, so it should be a reliable bike. The MT07 is a newer bike, it was out in 2011-2012? So nearly 4 years since the release date, I would imagine any flaws have been fixed by now? :p I wonder if the V-Twin will brake as hard, as the older gen SV650's do?

I'm 99% sure it's almost identical to this - this is on a Shoei NXR (RF1200).

Curved mount on the side of the chinbar, then a normal base, a few 'normal' arms and a 90 degree arm. Easy :D

Cheers :) I've got the xr1100 so it's pretty much identical, going to order a black case too, that way it won't stand out as much! :)

Not ridden my bike since October :( bloody rainy and cold English weather. Im a bit of a fair weather rider however ;)

I have been too, being on a 125 is ok in the summer, but when it's raining, the thin wheels on a 125 become an issue :(

I can at the weekend.

Thank you. :)

Noooooooooo he's haunting me :(

first one looks ok,has had second hand engine already though (wheels look a bit scabby too)

second one I wouldn't bother with tbh, paintwork is crap and the downpipes looklike they need new ones soonish

EDIT: whats made you want a firestorm btw

Fit a bigger seat today, just need the passenger pegs from the dealer next, also ordered some side bags so I can store my lock and disk lock instead of in my bag.

Quite a few things really. The value of my now cat c CBR will be less the next time someone decides to write it off for me and fairings are next to impossible to find now. Another reason is now that iv stopped hating on this parralel twin of an ER6-F for not being what im used to iv learnt to enjoy the engine for what it is so would like to try a big v twin. What sold this further was i sold an exhaust to a racer who has a firestorm as his road bike and he raved about how fun it was. Other reasons such as honda fan boy, rebelelious front wheel in the air excuses, because race bike, and i secretly love re-fuelling every 100 miles

The barely-warm storm isn't a bad bike to be fair, but the suspension lets it down a bit if you are used to nice tight sports bike. All fixable, though not overly cheap to get it really sorted (aftermarket rear shock, and USD forks from a fireblade are common mods).

You also need to be very aware that the timing chain tensioners are prone to failure on these, with engine grenading results. If the engine is making the typical timing chain rattle, either leave it or haggle the cost of a pair of new tensioners. Manual tensioners can be fitted, or the standard tensioners can be modified to prevent them backing off all the way.

Lovely sounding bike with a decent exhaust (standard one is very muted) but tank range is a joke on the early ones.

The first one looks like a potential bargain, with a decent rear shock and Termignoni exhausts, though I'd be removing the ugly looking riser bars and CNC top yoke and fitting standard parts - you could likely sell the yoke/bars for a reasonable amount. I'd also fit the later tank if not already changed. Shame the fairing has been cut though.

The second one is cheap, but looks like a bit of a dog. The first one is more than worth the extra IMO.

At £700 i dont think i can go wrong tbh. It may look like a dog but i love a project and this one seems to have had a less abused life style. The red bike has had a new engine which only jas 16000 miles on it..however on consecutive mot's it has had an oil leak. To me that says avoid, that combined with extensive mods says to me it has been abused to an inch of its life. The price is too good for the package 1100 or best offer compared to most at standard going for around the 1500 mark. I hope im right...

A minor oil leak is not something to be worried about provided it's a leaking seal or gasket. A damaged engine casing would put me off.

I suspect a new engine was required due to the tensioners failing on the original; the most common reason for failure on these bikes. IMO the black one looks like a hideous and neglected dog and it still has the soggy rear shock. The "extensive mods" consist of an expensive Ohlins rear shock (probably £400+ for that) and the nasty CNC yoke and bars. Fit standard ones and sell them and you can probably get a couple of fairing uppers with the proceeds.

Closer to £600 for the rear shock with the remote adjustment

Got it rather filthy on back roads, finally had some time to have a fun ride in the daytime and it was a hoot even though it was a bit damp and muddy in places.

Bennets wont allow me cover for a new bike to be added to my policy due to two claims being on my policy. If these claims are non fault and can be settled what can i do to remove them off? One of the them has been settled already.

Or in future shall i just not tell my insurance company someone has destroyed my propety when im settling it outside my own insurance company...

if ones been settled then it shouldn't be counted? wont they amend the current policy and let you add your new bike to it?

only other way is to take out a separate policy

They wont let me do either. They wont re-broke me a policy or amend my current one due to the claims. I think the settled claim still needs a bit of communication between the two companies.

Quotes for the vtr without no claims are mahoosive!!

I don't think you can 'remove' them for what, 4 years or something isn't it? I have one non-claim on mine and they ignore it completely, but it still has to stay on there.

Have you phoned around? BikeSure are pretty good when it comes to this sort of thing.

I think he means he's claimed twice on that policy/has 2 open claims. The normal "previous claims" bit won't cause any issues apart from an increase in premium.

Got my renewal letter through from Bennett's, £290. So I'll be going with wicked quotes this year. Tried adding an almax series 4 chain and it didn't reduce at all.
