What did you do to your bike today?

Thank you :) it'll probably be a zx-6r but now I can actually test ride them, makes the choice harder :p

Haha :D thanks!! It certainly is, I need to go test ride one!!

Grats :D seems like you've been testing/learning for ages now!

Also, most places want a year of licence before test riding unfortunately :(

Some do but I found a fair few round me were fine, even letting me out on a monster 821 a month after having passed. Suzuki and Yamaha MT roadshows were both good with under a year too, but them some (Ducati Roadshow) need 2 years on your licence

I am pretty lucky in that I have a group of pretty good dealers who cover Triumph, Suzuki, KTM, Ducati, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda. (Laguna Maidstone/Ashford performance/Maidstone Honda/Ashford Triumph if anyone is from these parts). Their used bike prices are pretty decent too, not a rip off like some places. Not sure what they're like for used bike test rides, although I was offered a test ride on a used KTM 1190 ADV one of them had in a few months ago.

Thanks :) yeah it's been a while, had to wait a month between mod1 and mod2, but now I'm not held back :D

So I'll have to buy it on a whim rather than being able to test it before I buy? :(

you'll like it im sure, dont think ive ever test ridden a bike before buying it,not had one I didn't like

I think the riding position will take getting used to but you'll be fine after a week or two

just be patient and take your time, dont dive in

All the places I've been have always wanted a year. I always thought being under 25 would be the issue for me, but they only ever asked for my licence to check I had had it for more than a year. Fortunately I had Hornet lined up which I got really cheap & stuck with that for a year, then got to test ride some stuff :D

Phone around though. It'd be in their interest to let a new rider test ride.

Not sure who said it, but they had a good point - it was something along the lines of: don't worry too much about test riding, just buy what you like the look of and enjoy it. A couple of hours test ride isn't going to give you an idea of day to day life with it anyway!

I had a street triple test ride in my first year (and under 25) from a friendly triumph dealership. Although just because they let you, doesn't mean you'll actually be covered by their insurance. The guy basically said to tick the boxes. Ultimately I'd have had a huge bill if I looped it coming out the dealership. He wanted me to buy it though, and I almost did it was an awesome bike, but then my brain took over the decision and wouldn't let me spend so much money on a toy :(
