What did you do to your bike today?

I didn't have a chance to test ride SV650SA, it was -20c in Poland, only today it went down to -8c and by the end of today my granddad said it was -6c.

But we had some fun with the handbrake on the icy roads. :D

BTW my mates want to go to Romania during summer, I'm trying to convince them to go somewhere else or is there something to see in Romania on a bike? Planning a trip and I don't have a bike yet hahaha :p

Go to the Alps :p

probably your age but pretty sure you could get it with less excess

EDIT: my bikes started to splutter/cut out ever so slightly on pullaway the last few days, idk what it is,i dropped it to 2nd gear and just below 2k rpm and put a fair bit of load on the engine and again it splutters, higher revs are fine its just on pullaway or at low revs/high loads

I might check the air filter/plugs

I was thinking air flow/leak myself, but I'm still learning :)

compared insurance across lots of different models in comparison to my current bike for when i pass my unrestricted test. Was planning on keeping SV unrestricted for a year or so before changing bike.. That being said, I've discovered CB1000R's this afternoon and they look absolutely awesome.

what year? seems to be a lot of excess ?

My guess is that quote is with MCE. They are often the cheapest by a long way but often have a very high excess

Was trying to snow here this morning, perfect riding conditions :D
It has gone from needing no buff to needing a winter buff since the last time I rode before xmas break, the summer buff does nothing!

I got caught out this morning didn't even think about putting my base layers on, by the time I got to work 40 minutes of resting on an ice cold tank meant I wasn't sure I was still a real boy any more.

Yep its coming, next week most likely!

MowyTone did you see the hit and run on the biker that happened in Southampton doing the rounds on social media yesterday?

I did mate yes. Worrying thing is I could have gone home that way at about the same time that happened. Lucky the guy behind had dashcam but that car was being driven like it was stolen.

edit: it's not on youtube so can't put it up

wore my merino base layer under my kevlar jeans this morning, and my textile jacket with 2 thin layers and a fleece, the only part of me that was cold was my hands. My heated grips hadn't really warmed up even after 40 minutes, they were slightly warm but fighting a losing battle against the cold. I'd love to get some heated gloves but for the time being looks like my muffs will be going back on next week.

Can anyone recommend me a decent lock? Bit of a predicament really. I was planning on leaving my bike on my drive but there is nothing to really anchor it to.

front of house

I was planning on a disk lock and alarm but apparently they're no good. but there isn't anything which I can chain it to. my only other option is that I keep it behind the gate?

It's not an awful area. Everyone knows everyone and our house is flanked by two elderly couples and a lovely lady across the road who brings us fresh chicken eggs from time to time from the chickens in her garden. I've also noticed someone else keeps their bike out on the road and it's been there for several years and has never been stolen.

Is bike theft really that bad or am I being paranoid?

A disk lock will be no good if your bike is just sat on the drive, it'll be in a van in 10 seconds if someone wants in, either a ground anchor, big chain, disk lock and a cover or keep it behind the fence.

Go above what you think is safe. :)

SV? 13 plate, but yeah I thought the same thing. Only 3 years no claims by this point, aged 23

As Wazza says it'll be your age, once you hit 24 it'll drop as you are then legally considered to be a "properly" unrestricted biker. Same deal with cars, 18 is expensive, 20 it gets cheaper and its not until 24/25 or so that you aren't considered a boy racer any more..

Not sure how happy a landlord would be happy with that. When we go house hunting next year anything we buy will have to have a garage for sure

Raise the two fence panels up slightly on the right? And chain around the concrete post

That or chain to the lampost

Your not paranoid, theft is that bad,it's rife

Ah good shout about the fence panels! I considered the lamp
Post but as its on the public path I figured it might be a bit naughty.

Really despise how people think it's ok to just take what isn't theirs.

Best way to avoid problems is to keep it out of view. A disk lock will help but as explained if they want it bad enough there are ways round it. Even a ground anchor and chain can be cropped unless you buy a fat linked chain.

Would the landlord not be willing to fit a gate for side access?

I've seen a guy use a lamp post outside a block of flats so secure their bike. They have been doing that for at least 6 months so they haven't been told to stop
