What did you do to your bike today?

Numpty number 1. That was the very first flash of his indicator, already moving over, and as you can see, I'm already "letting him know I'm there" :p

This was less than 2 minutes into my commute, gotta be awake! :D

It was pretty hard to tell it was a rental/courtesy at the time, but yeah I know what you mean!

Junglist - this is the sort of thing that will happen pretty regularly as a biker on the commute - you just need to be ready for it and expecting it to happen. This wasn't a big deal, I thought nothing of it 30 seconds later.

Oh and that's why we have loud exhausts. In the time it would have taken for me to find the horn he would have been another 3-4ft over...

Maybe, but I'd slowed down when it got to the 'danger area' where the lane splits and was doing 20mph, the cars moving were doing 10mph. I could have also quite easily have been in the same location behind him if I'd been riding normally not filtering and had gone to change lanes.

Also, in that situation do you brake and not alert them to your presence, or accelerate past and not alert them, or do as I did? It's easy to think about it watching it back a few times. That's the first time anything like that has happened in probably 6-9 months, I actually don't remember the last time anyone switched lanes on me like that at the last moment or without indicating, that I hadn't foreseen way up the road and hung behind them.

I normally seem to go for the accelerate out option, at least then I know what's going on in front rather than dropping anchor and having some other donkey rear end me. I also tend to keep it in a lower gear and use more revs when I filter one for the noise and two because I know if I need to slow down then the engine breaking will basically stop me as soon as I close the throttle without having to slam on the brakes.

Just keep in mind anything that goes wrong when filtering never mind how stupid the other drivers movements were it'll almost always be seen as your fault due to filtering being an at your own risk maneuver.

Well touch wood I've not had an incident yet in nearly 20k miles :) Long may it stay that way. And I do a lot of filtering every day.

I'm a pretty cautious filterer most of the time, I'd like to think I'm fairly safe too :)

Went out to check my rear wheel wobble, looks like the rear brake sticking on before I stripped it down has warped the disc or it's been like that for a while but my rear caliper and pads were so past it that it didn't contact the disc causing the wobble.

Anyway new disc and some shiny titanium disc bolts ordered.

Fitted a set of Race Tech gold valves and some K-tech springs to my 929 forks today. The gold valves are quite a fiddly job, you need a decent set of verniers or a micrometer to ensure you get the correct shims fitted.

Fitted some ebc hh pads on the front yesterday in the pouring rain. Did get chance to take it out so might today weather dependant.

Also adjusted chain and tightened up my throttle cable. Throttle still feels weird though, I can push my throttle forward which makes the revs dip, is that normal? I think that has been what's making it cut out. Need an Mot next month so might just get them to look at it then, really odd.

Sounds to me your throttle cables are sticking somewhere and not fully snapping shut, then the udle speed has been adjusted to compensate. So when the throttle bodies are fully closed the bike dies because the idle is set far too low.

Well in a bid to not replace the downpipes I thought I'd try to seal the holes.

Rubbed the area down:

Then put the sealant on. I took the approach that I don't want to have it too thin anywhere so used half the tube

whats that? you wont repair those, maybe weld some patches on them temporary,or some exhaust wrap but tbh your best bet is to replace with new or second hand

It's holts fire gum. Its for joins and patching apparently. I'm in no doubt that I should be replacing the downpipes in the long run. It's more what I can do as a temp measure to get the house buying out the way then I know what cash I have to work with.

It cost me £4 so if it lasts a bit I'm happy. Best I've found as far is £70 for 2nd hand pipes

you'll find it'll just blow out, some material exhaust wrap might work better or better still over the top of that

still a bodge though, aint you seen any used pipes?

EDIT: £70 isn't too bad,i doubt you'd pass mot like that though

No not normal, most bikes have a pull-push throttle cable setup in case of the throttle sticking open, but that should only put the throttle back to idle.
As said its been played around with and now needs setting up right again
