What did you do to your bike today?

Was very close to buying a grom today. Seller wanted £200 over my budget and wasnt budging lower.

Was really an impulse attempt at buying. :p

Was sat on one at the Scottish bike show last month. I had an idea that they were small but I wasn't prepared for just how small they actually were. I want one for the lols :D:D

Thought about trading it in for a Fireblade :p

Power jump would be far too much I think, and the insurance goes from £150 up to £800 if I change to a Fireblade..

Reasons I haven't yet :p

Yeah IL4 superbikes are just too easy to do licence losing speeds without realising.

Get yourself a nice 100-120bhp v-twin naked - not sure if you commute on your bike or not?

If you want a Fireblade, get a Fireblade. It doesn't matter if you don't use the power on British roads (you can, I can assure you! :) ), as long as you're having fun on the bike you own then it doesn't matter does it?

+1 this,if you can afford to run it go for it,the extra power is very nice indeed, effortless pootling too

Convincing arguments, all of you :p

My next jump I think will be to a 120-140bhp bike, Sv has been 33bhp for two years and is now 73 but to be honest, 73bhp hasn't really had much effect.

I'm looking at CB1000R's, naked with a de-tuned Fireblade engine, possibly a CBR600RR, 120-140 depending on year.

Will give it until at the very least July though; more likely next July :(

I would get a 1000cc if you are using it everyday for commute etc, the power on the 600RR is very "peaky". It only really begins to kick in at 10K rpm and at that speed your into licence loss/prison speeds lol.

Plug it if you can, take it to somewhere that fits bike tyres and they'll remove the tyre and plug it from the inside. That'll be good until the tyre is worn out.

What TallPaul_S says is quite true though. Power is great but where the power delivers is just as important. I was defending my IL4 in another discussion with him a while back - it is unusually very torquey low down and incredibly smooth all the way through the rev range.

But if you want to access all the power at the top end, then those are indeed licence-losing speeds. Mine's entering the nice power band in second gear at about the point it hits 70 mph. A v twin will get you to that power band much earlier, the trade-off being that they normally aren't much fun to ride at slower speeds.

If you've gone from 33 to 73 bhp and haven't really noticed the difference then likely you're riding down low in the rev range and a powerful v twin will make the biggest impact to you. It is just personal choice though, and I'm at the point where I'm fed up with lumpy low down v twins and love, when I can, hearing the IL4 sing at the top end. Give it another few years and I'll probably be back on a big v twin, saying they're the best thing since sliced bread.

To make the point, I went out tonight for some sound testing. This clip is one of the better ones for sound but illustrates the point - on the first part I'm at 70 mph before coming anywhere near the fun power. If I'd held it in second gear I'd be at 70 mph just as things were about to get exciting.
