What did you do to your bike today?

I'd just like to point out that at no point in that video did he actually go off road :p

A green lane is off-road - off-road being not on a tarmaced road. Yes, any vehicle can drive down a green lane and they're technically still 'roads' but you wouldn't take a ford focus, or a porsche 911, or a 1000cc superbike down one... well, 'normal' people wouldn't :p:D

Off road is off road. A green lane is usually an unclassified road or a byway...which is a type of road. There's no technically about it...they are roads.

I agree however that you have to be a monumental idiot to ride a gixxer down one.

Anything that is mud/gravel/dirt - i.e. not tarmac - is off-road. Doesn't matter if it's classed as a road or not.

A wide forest gravel fire road is offroad. Same a rocky hillclimb. Same as wooded singletrack, or on the dunes in the desert.

There are a hell of a lot of 'roads' in the world that are very, very far from being 'on-road'.

Yes, 'technically' it's not off road, but to most people 'off road' means mud/dirt/gravel. Whether that's on a legal road or not.

Oh and Baron's no idiot. He just didn't realise what he was getting into and couldn't turn around.

When he realised he'd gone too far there were 2 massive ruts either side of the 'road', if he'd tried to turn round he would have beached it...

He even says "I can't turn round either" at that very moment.

No 'simply turn around' about it :D

4:50 mins in, now THAT is an idiot. :D

The sv has gone into hammer and tongs in Warrington for valve clearances check and adjust if needed and throttle bodies balanced.

Getting it done for peace of mind, had her a year now, just ticked over 32k and don't know if it's ever been done.

Getting the TBs done, would I notice much difference if they needed doing? Does it sort any flat spots or anything?

I've noticed she uses oil, doesn't burn (no smoke or contamination), just uses it. Maybe every 1k got to top up min to max. Been reading and people say some use oil, some don't. If you ride it hard, it will use it.

I use the sv as a toy, and every Thursday to the Raven cafe, it's high rpm, so I assume it's just that. Next time I do an oil change, would engine flush and thicker oil help with oil consumption? Done about 500mile since I did the service (10w40 castol oil, k&n oil filter)

That's a lot of oil! Mine used nothing in the 2.5k miles it had done before I changed it at the weekend, that's with daily commuting and plenty of spirited jaunts thrown in.

Not that I know of.

I'll ask my work colleagues when I boot it to see if there is any blue smoke. There is nothing on start up. They ain't said anything before about it.

About 400ml of oil I think. There is no leaks, there was when I first did the filter change from the filter but that was just excess from the threads etc and bone dry. Would a compression test rule anything out?

She does get some abuse, but do look after her. Only give it fist full when at operating temperature.

Maybe I just need a faster bike, but Mrs won't allow for another 2 years :(

Only way you'd know it was worn rings was a compression test

Your mileage isn't high though

Maybe it's been the same from new, wasn't ran in correctly so rings not seated 100%and always been the same?

I'm more than certain it doesn't smoke. I had a car mechanic over the road from work who is into his bikes and says it smells healthy what ever that means lol.

If you can get a comp check done then I would and see if they are in spec

Other than that idk why your using so much oil other than a leak,my bike has an oil leak but it doesn't go down that fast,I only check mine every 6 months or so

A tune up/valve adjust might help not sure
