What did you do to your bike today?

Got the Blade MOT'd this morning:

Then went for a quick test ride on the outskirts of Dartmoor, just to make sure the newly fitted wheels and forks weren't going to fall off.

Tried out my camelbak with the tascam recorder in the pocket on the back. Success! No sounds of water splooshing about (even with 2l of water in the bladder) and no rustling even with it just slipped into the pocket. Very little wind noise either. Much less muffled and a clear sound. Too clear, in fact... :D My bike is quiet under 7k rpm and LOUD over it, with the level set to not clip it's very quiet when not in VTEC zone :D

I can just about drink from it while riding, have to push my helmet up a little to get the bit valve in but it's easier when stopped.

Oh and saw the new speed triple R in white, looks sooooo nice

Spent the last few evenings making this motorbike dolly.
Pretty pleased with how it came out in the end.

It can accommodate both my bikes although I do need to make some modifications for the dorsoduro to fit properly as at the moment the brake discs are rubbing on the supports, just need to shave a bit more wood away.
The DRZ is fine as it only has one brake disc.

I might fit some larger castors at some point as the floor in my garage is pretty bad the smaller castors can get stuck.
On flat even surface it moves around no problems at all.

After I sorted that out it was valve adjustment time for the DTZ. I fitted some hot cams last year but didn't bother with the valves so they need doing this year. luckily its only the exhaust side that are nearly out of spec.

As always the inspection plug was jammed solid. had to drill a small hole and persuade it with a center punch and a club hammer. Why do these things always seize up!?!
So need to get hold of a new plug at some point too.

Just got to order the shims now.

OH and I also test rode a brand new BMW f800r this morning. Nice machine very smooth and comfortable but not a patch on fun like my Dorsoduro is!

I use their extreme stuff it's good lasts for a couple of hundred miles even in the winter weather, only drawback is it does make a bit of a mess so it's not for nice clean garage queens.

is that so you can move and turn it easier?

Yeah, just got to put the bike on it then I can push the bike to the back of the garage sideways on and get the car in behind it. will hopefully make life a lot easier!

How's your bike doing Benji? I'm pleased with the mpg on mine, about the same as my old zx6r

Well I ordered two new tyres for Lucy and was going to take the wheels in loose (£39 for front and rear at two local places to me), however I cannot remove the front wheel. The axle nut will just not budge

So I'll be putting the rear back on tomorrow and riding it to the garage and paying the full £80 for two tyres to be fitted at some point this week :(

I sometimes had to encourage my hornet's front axle with plastic hammer, or if it has a hole through it on one side you can stick a screwdriver in sideways and pull

@IC3 - Unfortunately in Aylesbury and Watford the price was around the £80 mark. Seeing as I can't get the front off (annoyed as I'd already taken the rear off), I'll just take it to the garage and let them battle with it.

@craig - I've tried spraying some GT-85 in the threads, using a rubber mallet and then borrowing a long pipe to put over the end of my socket wrench and still no joy. Who ever did it up last must have gone to town and not used any grease/copper ease.

An overzealous mechanic, my rear axle nut was like that, I had to stand n bounce on the ratchet

It's £10 per loose wheel by me:p

Oh the actual nut... misread your OP.

I'd spray WD40 in there a few times every few hours this evening, then leave it overnight and again tomorrow if you can.

You need to get yourself a proper breaker bar. My rear nut originally wouldn't budge, had it off in seconds with the breaker bar. I guess a pipe over it does the same thing though

Changed coolant temp sensor. The fan actually comes on now! Only lost a few ml by just taking out the old one and quick switching it for the new one. Managed to lose a black alan key into the engine somewhere when putting the fairing back on tho...

When my blade was MOT'd yesterday, the tester handed over the keys and also an 8mm spanner, and asked me if I usually kept a spanner on the rear caliper bleed nipple :D

I've got a cigarette lighter USB charger rolling around my rear seat unit somewhere, not quite as impressive as managing to keep a spanner on the bleed nipple though. That's hard enough when you're actually bleeding them!
