What did you do to your bike today?

Depends on the bore material, but a bike that's been run in hard will tend to have a rougher bore surface that retains oil and tends to burn more (and usually make slightly more lower). It'll use oil but will as a rule will last longer.

Had the 1 year/6000 mile service done on my S1000RR today (it's only done 1800 miles :o), also had a recall carried out on it which involved changing the shifting mechanism, apparently they made them from Swiss cheese. Can't say I had any issues with it, but I guess I wouldn't with those miles :p

1800 miles in a year on a Brand new S1000RR  + :(

Reminds me of that Baron Von Grumble video :D

I will never ever go off road, ever!

Just Why ???

The sv has gone into hammer and tongs in Warrington for valve clearances check and adjust if needed and throttle bodies balanced.

Getting it done for peace of mind, had her a year now, just ticked over 32k and don't know if it's ever been done.

Getting the TBs done, would I notice much difference if they needed doing? Does it sort any flat spots or anything?

I've noticed she uses oil, doesn't burn (no smoke or contamination), just uses it. Maybe every 1k got to top up min to max. Been reading and people say some use oil, some don't. If you ride it hard, it will use it.

I use the sv as a toy, and every Thursday to the Raven cafe, it's high rpm, so I assume it's just that. Next time I do an oil change, would engine flush and thicker oil help with oil consumption? Done about 500mile since I did the service (10w40 castol oil, k&n oil filter)

The oil has to be going somewhere so either you are losing it or Burning it. Bike should run quite a bit better after the throttle bodies have been done if they haven't been balanced in quite some time. Should start run & tick over better but most of all will be how smooth it is throughout the whole throttle range during acceleration.

I know.. Totted up my total bike mileage and did just shy of 10k miles last year. Like I said in a previous post, it is a bit of a garage tart, but I took it to Donny last August and got to use it's full potential, which I can never do on the public roads, so it gets used, proper. Still got that new showroom bike smell! It's the 'problem' of having too many bikes in the garage :p

Finally adjusted my chain, someone had put the cotter pin through then tightened the nut into it,I had to stand and bounce on the ratchet to undo it

Far far too tight

Well got the bike back from the shop.

The valve clearances were fine and within tolerance but the TB's were out by quite a bit. As soon as you start it, you herd a difference, puurs like a tiger! Sounds a lot healthier, and seems a lot more responsive too! No more flat spot at 5k :D

Asked him about the oil consumption, and he said wouldn't worry to much about it. He has had some sv's come in with the same question, said all depends on how it was ran in and how it's ridden. He said no blue smoke or anything so wouldn't worry.

It's mad what a TB balance can do!

How much did they charge for the valve check and tb sync?

My bike is an 03 model (53 plate).

He charged me £120 for both. If valves needed adjusting (you replace the shims) then would ring and negotiate. It's just £54 for the TB balance.

I thought it was a good price considering they obviously change your coolant as you drop the radiator and oil top up as you will loose some.

That's a good price it's a fair bit of labour just to get to the valves.

I'm considering giving it a go myself, the engine is the only bit I've not worked on so far.

Tightened chain a little and cleaned the wheels with WD40.
Got caught in the heaving rain the other night so left it out all night and it looked like crap so gave it a pampering session tonight.
Going to polish it tomorrow also.

engine is down on power sometimes below 4K revs. I'm going to take the tank off and inspect the air filter and see if it has one of those silly flaps in the air box

I've a K&N Air filter, I wonder if it'll change the way the bike sounds. :p

I'll service it on Monday, I was going to do it today. But I'm still missing couple bits and I don't want to faff around with getting everything out, one of the downs of not having a garage. :(

Stuck some GOOP in my rear tyre last night. There's a technique to it otherwise it all just blocks up at the valve and doesn't squeeze in.

Went for a short ride after.

Lost 1.5psi overnight last night. Hopefully that's either because the GOOP isn't distributed properly yet because of the short ride, or because the tyres were still slightly warm from my ride home from work last night when I put the GOOP in. Inflated to 42 this morning when they were definitely cold, so I'll see how it goes.

I put one in mine, and it sounds awesome! It feels to rev better at higher rpms compared to stock filter.

You can really hear a big difference when wide open on the throttle :)

We'll see on Monday, today I went to check the pads. I quickly checked them torqued the calipers back on the bike and went back home... freezing and that wind. :(

They need a bit more heat in them than the ebc hh but once you've warmed them up I'd say they're a little better than the ebcs in stopping power, don't make an irritating woosh sound that apparently is common with the ebcs that I'd started getting and seem to make less dust.

I wouldn't pay the prices UK sites charge for them but picking them up from Italy they're pretty much the same price.
