Do it yourself, hour of your time £80ish in parts, smug satisfaction at the end and £120 to spend on beer/coke/hookers to celebrate.

Yeah I should really. It is not that hard, just iffy getting to the spark plugs.

I need to win the lottery so I can get VFR1200F!!! (and a R1M, Fireblade... blah blah lol):D

I find getting to the spark plus on the sv a doddle. I use the halfords adavanced 130 piece tool set, so has every tool I need in that aspect.

Got an annoying problem that's occurred. Sometimes my speedometer would read 0. Once stopped and going to 40mph would be fine then would go again. Sometimes on a run without restarting the bike it would work fine without a glitch.

It's had a new speedometer rotor fitted around 8 months ago when it gone completely. But I think it might be on its way again :( I got my self a paddock set but can't get the front tyre off the ground as it slips (ment for USD forks with radial calipers). People have the same problem when calipers near the top of the forks, so they get to screwdrivers and put it under the fork leg so the 2 prong things on the stand won't slip. Need to get it done and have a look at the rotor in the wheel.

Also, doing another oil change, because when it had work done for valve clearances and TB balanced, if I put it into first when cold, bike would conk out because of clutch drag. If I rev and put into first it's fine. I think they must have out heavier oil in as it never did that before. Got my self some engine oil cleaner, motul 5000 (I think 4l+1l free) and k&n filter.

My local Suzuki dealer wanted just under £500 to do the 15k service  That's almost a third of what the bikes worth.

Labour and parts charges don't reduce in proportion to the bikes value :p

15k is a valve clearance check/adjust which is labour intensive so is never going to be cheap at a dealers.

Just been through my receipt for last service which was an oil change, oil filter change and 2x spark plugs. £49 parts, £147 labour. Next week it's in for service which I've just seen is oil change and spark plugs. They've quoted me £229 again. **** that, I'm gonna do it myself, 3 years old or not!

Stick some iridium plugs in and then forget about them for the next 20k miles at least.

I can get a 'service package' kit from ebay for £70 which includes air filter, oil filter, 4l of Oil and 2 spark plugs.

What can anyone say about K&N Filters, both air and oil. Are they worth it? Is it simply convenience that they offer or is there any (minimal) performance gain?

Air filter, no performance gain that you'll notice but they sound nicer. If you want one check eBay for a 2nd hand one no point in paying double for brand new.
Oil filter, nothing special they're the same inside as HiFlo just rebranded IIRC so save yourself the money.

ok sweet thanks. Air filter makes the bike sound nicer? How so? It already sounds epic :D

You get a bit more induction roar, although I've desnorkled and raised my tank as well so it really does make me grin from ear to ear when I open it up now :D

The only downside I can think of with a K&N air filter is once you've washed it it needs to be totally dry before you oil it so obviously you can't just jump straight back on the bike, I've kept my old OEM filter as a spare so I can throw that in if I need to get out while the K&N is drying.

Also don't go slopping oil on it like you're painting a wall or you end up with a puddle in your air box :o
