What did you do to your bike today?

New starter relay arrived today. Fitted and the bloody thing still won't start. Just spins and turns over.

Bike hasn't been started for about 14 months. It's been sat all that time and never been looked at, do you reckon the fuel in the tank may have 'gone off' by now and cause it not to fire up?.

I would give it a go with some fresh fuel, failing that check the spark plugs and maybe put a thimble of fuel down into the cylinders.

You reckon I'd need to empty the possibly stale fuel that is in the tank already or just fill the tank with fresh stuff?. Complete pain in the knackers having to lift the tank and drain it but I suppose if its better to do it that way then needs must.......:(

Depends how the bikes been stored & wether its Fi or carbed, i started my XJR13 after it had been parked up for 18 months on Sorn, didn't change the fuel or clean the carbs out, granted it was a bit awkward to get going & needed a change of battery, but it got there in the end.

Modern fuel is remarkebley stable, unless it's been parked under a blazing sun for a year & a half, ide be surprised if the fuels gone stale. what i would look for is water ingress, or sediment blocking jets/filters because it's been parked so long.

could be badly flooded, best to take out the plugs and clean/replace if you can

be carefull how long you thumb the starter as the rectifier wires tend to melt, give it a break between starting

Eric my CBR600 is now in twowheelworkshop in Ellesmere Port getting some new clothes and a new rear LED light cluster put on simply because I'm idle and can't bt @ssed. So... hopefully pick him up tomorrow... get in there!

Mine was sat for the best part of 6 months and fired up literally within a second of cranking it. It was stored indoors though, and I suppose 14 months might be long enough to cause problems. Try taking a plug out and see if it's wet and smells of petrol, which will show fuel is actually getting through. You can also check it's actually sparking.

It's also possible for the overflow drain to get blocked, which means water builds up around the filler, and opening the filler will then dump the water into the tank, or if the filler seal is ropey, the water could slowly drain into the tank by itself. Since water falls to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pickup is, enough water will stop it running (and bugger up the fuel pump).

I went to try out a VFR1200 today. "Lovely condition sir" over the phone, actually translated to 'it's been on its side at least once, the fairing panel gaps by the tank are messed up, there's a gouge in the fairing, bar end and peg. Oh and the heated grip switch disappears half way through the rest ride'. Wasted trip to Gloucester!

Awesome.

Nice bike though, I just want to find one in decent condition.

crashed it

well looks like this weekend is going to be spent fitting new right wing mirror, new right indicator, new front and rear brake levers, and putting the old exhaust on :(

brake lever bent into a banana was a bugger riding home, especially as the rear brake lever is bent back on itself so completely unusable.

so much for the crash bobbin, think i'll get metal ones next time :p

was just going to the gym, road was wet and fair bit of oil from the crappy students cars, there are those speed hump/pillow things in the road, moved to the middle to go round it but was in commuting "autopilot mode" and didn't go quite far enough just clipped the edge and the wheels just slipped and down i went :(

stupid really, would rather have binned it in a corner or something rather than just inattentiveness and ****** timing.

Damn, hard lines Tefal :(.

I didn't realise slipping off the side of one of those would create a big enough slip to continue on the level :(. Will certainly be thinking of this next time I'm out.
