What did you do to your bike today?

Nice!! I would prefer to have a larger engine though, min 400. I wouldnt want to try and overtake the lorries on those roads without having some power

What style xr1100 have you got? Mine doesn't have recessed speaker holes inside, if that's what you mean?

I have the XR1100 and that has speaker holes (Sena 20S fits nicely). Are you sure you don't just have the foam blanking/filler things that Shoei sell which are supposed to reduce noise?

The different names are just for the paint jobs, they are all the same helmet as far as I know (I have the glossy black one, my brother has the tangent).

Ditto,

Anyone got any experience with the S1000RR?

Yup, also own a 2015 (3rd Gen).

Best bike I have ever owned, and not just as a sportsbike; it's the best track, road and touring bike I've ever owned all rolled into one. I recently bought a KTM990 SM-T to commute and tour, and while it's a great bike, I'm not convinced it's better at anything than the S1K.

Confusingly, the S1K is capable of being also the most economical bike over 600cc I've owned- gentle 80mph riding gives a true 50+ mpg.

Downside of the S1K is it got nicked the second time I rode it to work. Got it back, but won't be commuting any more on it (even though it makes a fantastic commuter too).

I think a 300cc Vespa would have been perfect. I kept looking at the road and thinking about how my XR would have been, and there would have been little point in it. Uphill pretty much all the traffic (not much anyway, as all the traffic apart from tourists, livestock and chemical transport goes through the much quicker tunnel) was slow. I didn't go faster than 100 kph and managed to overtake just fine, albeit in slow motion sometimes.

It really isn't a long pass though, and the descent on the north side was far more enjoyable. Anyway, another one ticked off the bucket list!

Show us some pictures and a sound clip please, my dad wants to do the same, could you also let me know which ones please? Cheers. :)

Sure, I'll have to get them tomorrow at work (I didnt tell the Mrs it was being done  )

I got the Black Widow headers and the Akrapovic slip on was already on the bike.

Changed the brake fluid, cleaned it and put some more miles on it. :p

Headers from the bike. I will try to get the video later today when its not raining, I will also charge to Go Pro and give it a ride to hear the difference when its going, although its an old one so the sound wont be amazing on it.

I have also ordered some heat resistant paint to go on the side where you can see the marks, hope that works.

Cheers

Excellent thank you :)

Hoping for some dry weather at the weekend so I can give the bike it's pre terrible weather clean and grease. Just ordered some of the ACF50 corrosion block grease so I shall be slapping that on liberally.

I'm about to order some cleaning stuff, getting a proper wash mitt and drying towel, some meguiars ultimate wash and wax shampoo, some magifoam snow foam, carnauba wax, sdoc100 dry lube and sdoc100 chain cleaner.

The Tuono is getting dirty already so will give it a proper clean and wax, clean the chain and put on some cleaner dry lube next weekend.

Put a bigger snorkel in my KLX351 for better airflow, as a lot of the trail riding i do is swamp, which basically means you could be having a good ol jolly down a trail, and next thing you know, you're waist deep in water cos of a pot hole.. Don't wanna be hydrolocking now do we !

I removed the existing snorkel as it was too restrictive on air flow, once i'd put my new big bore 351 cyl in and new Mikuni pumper carb. Oh and i cleaned it for the first time in a couple of yrs... well if you can call spraying it with WD40, and wiping down a clean.. TBH its only gonna get caked in mud / crap this weekend, so i didn't go too crazy. Its my trail bike. its supposed to look dirty... My other bikes stay shiny and clean.. This one takes a beating !

A morning/afternoon of jobs on the bikes today, first off was getting a new front tyre fitted on the CB400

'Well used' :D Right down to the TWI on the sides.

Shiny, new and more importantly, round!

Then onto some Tuono maintenance...

Love how easy it is to get to the airbox and under the tank -2 side panels, 2 bolts, pivot back and you're in.

I syringed out some oil as it was a little overfilled from the last service, the oil has a reddish colour to it so I'll have a look to see what make oil it is.

Checked the airbox for any excess oil (due to the slight overfilling) but it was spotless

I did however find this oil trap pipe resting on the engine... trimmed it down a little and refitted it.

Also freed up the front disc bobbins a little as I've bee getting some uneven braking at low speed on the front. Took off a caliper, they'll get a proper scrub down when it gets a full wash next weekend as there's a fair amount of brake dust on them.

Oh and adjusted the chain on the Tuono. I'll get a new titanium rear axle nut at some point as the one on there is getting a little chewed up, plus a correct size (huge!) socket for the nut, found an old big socket that I had for a car which fitted but wasn't 100% the right size.
