What did you do to your bike today?

MoT expired this week. With the weather turning, I've no desire to ride so I think for the first time in about 20 years, I'll be hibernating the Italian beastie until the Spring.

Mine will go away when the first lot of road salt has gone down. Hopefully like last year that's not until November down here!

Haha you should know - black clutch fluid is perfectly normal on Aprilias :p

It will have been replaced less than 1000 miles ago, they go black really quickly.

Nice! Is that the smallest cable lock in the world on your pillion peg/exhaust hanger?

It's just a small one yeah to lock my helmet to the bike. :)

lol just noticed that tiny lock as well :p

Won't that helmet lock rattle around and scratch your pillion hanger up eventually?

Stick one of these on the pillion footpeg with disk lock and helmet lock inside: http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/206981

Gave the bird a bit of a winter clean... ACF50 should be arriving tomorrow to get it on the areas susceptible to the elements.

Although i said earlier in the thread dont bother with the oberon clutch cylinder . It dosent help the feel but 90% cures the black fluid

After over a year, I rode my Hornet today! It's running really nicely, smooth, quick, sounds good, no misfires or anything. 'New' (2nd hand) forks are nice and dry, handles nicely. Adjusted idle after the ride while it was warm, which made it even more responsive and will probably improve gearing etc. further.

Then I did this :D

Going to speak to insurance tomorrow to see how much to add on to my Speed Triple policy, otherwise it's only £130 on a new TPFT policy with 0 ncb (my ncb are used on my main bike).

Then tax and drop off for MOT which it'll pass easily.

I would still like to have to the carbs off, clean and then balance them. Cleaning I can do, I'll figure that out with the Haynes manual, but the balancing needs to be done with a tool, so might just ask shop to do that bit.

Vids I've seen of balancing makes it look pretty easy if you take your time. Carb 1 cannot be adjusted so you balance 2 to 1. you then balance 3 to 4 if I remember correctly then you use another adjustment screw to balance 3&4 to 1&2. I'll see if I can find the vid.

Edit:

Here you go:

Nearly right about the order

Thanks. That's a very easy job. Just need that special measuring thing!

Looks like I can get them for about £40 which will probably be cheaper than paying the shop to do it.

Saying that, it seems like a massive pain having the tank off and hooking it up with a longer hose etc. :p.

Cleaned the pistons, changed the pads to EBC HH. Waiting for my clutch cable, today was such a nice day nearly 17c... If it doesn't come tomorrow I'll probably give it a wash. :(

Bought a new tyre changer. Will be installing it later on this week. I already have three tyres that are waiting to be switched out... Four bikes that are used a lot, it made financial sense to get one. Put my back out for a month and messed up my knees, not to mention scratched up my rim, when i tried to do it with just spoons. NEVER AGAIN, i said to myself.

Changed the oil yesterday. Filter got stuck coming off. Had to resort to using plumbers pliers and basically crushing them onto the filter and twisting. Lots of mess and that but it's sorted now.

When I had my accident the repair company told me they replaced the oil. Assuming they were a respectable establishment I thought they changed the filter as well. Turns out they didn't. So that filter had been on there for about 2 years and had stuck itself on with all the dirt that gets flicked up under the bike.

Might do the front sprocket next week. Or give the brakes a clean.

The weathers looking decent for the weekend. Might finally get round to installing my new forks with progressive springs, fancy Silkolene RSF oil and decent seals so I can sell my current set.

As long as it's not some little 125 pee shooter with a "race extra 50bhp fam can top 100mph now blud" can then there is no such thing as a chav exhaust on a bike :p

I had the same yesterday, had to put a screwdriver through it and twist it off, way too tight, don't think it had ever been changed!

I also noticed the oil in the bike was far too thick, I think the previous owner just put any oil he could find, running much smoother now.

After posting that telling you to try it, I forgot to come back and mention you need to be very careful! :p

If it's really tight, it can tear the filter, then you're potentially a bit screwed.

We almost messed up on Freeman's filter. Stuck an allen key through the hole in the bolt (K&N filter), then hammered on the end of a flat head screwdriver against the allen key. A couple of hits and it tore half the head of the filter off. Didn't realise how weak they are.
