What did you do to your bike today?

I plugged the puncture and it seems to be holding at 40psi which is good. I'll call up a local bike shop to see if they'll repair it permanently otherwise it'll be new tyres :(

Probably the first and thusfar only job I've ever done on the bike that went completely smoothly.

Had a nice ride out to Boxhill and Newlands corner, could have been better however... the Tuono is STILL cutting out! :(

I thought it was fuel level related (happened on an emptyish tank) but it started again today with barely 60 miles done, half a tank left. It's definitely heat related, i.e. the hotter the weather and the longer the bike is running the worse the issue gets. The bubbles from the fuel pump are deffo something to do with it though. So, when I got (limped!) home, what did I do?

Drain the fuel tank and remove the filter, of course!! :D

There was still some fuel left in the tank here, hence why it's in the position it is.

Fuel pump out, and the hose that I thought was cracked/split, is in perfect condition... :(

next step, check the pre-filter (teabag filter) on the fuel pump...

Ahaaaa! Properly dirty. So, if my thinking is right, the dirty filter is restricting the fuel flow to the pump, which is then overheating becuase it's not getting enough fuel, which is causing cavitation in the pump, the air is then getting shoved round the fuel system and coming back into the tank via the return line (which feeds back almost directly into the fuel pump). becuase how else would air get into the system, and cause a jaccuzi in the tank?!?! :p

A few other people have said this teabag filter is the cause of so many problems.

It's then a vicious cycle, made worse by the engine sitting directly under the tank warming the fuel up (the tank is physically warm to the touch after riding), and the hot weather also heating up the fuel. Warm fuel into a fuel pump that's overheating due to lack of fuel flow = running like **** bike!!! I nursed it home on the motorway but it felt like it was running on 1 cylinder, rough as an old dog.

I may replace the fuel pump too as if it's been overheating that can't have been doing much good to it.
So, I replaced the fuel pump and strainer filter on Wednesday night, rode to work yesterday and have just given it a good run out for a couple of hours, draining the tank to the last few hundred ml (I got 17.9l into an 18l tank...) and *touch wood* she's running perfectly. :D Not a hiccup or stall at all, and I've not been able to run it that low on fuel for a while not, it would always start cutting out - the problem being cuased by low fuel and/or heat - with a combination of the 2 when it was at it's worse.

Yep, the pump may not have needed replacing but I've read that once you get cavitation in a fuel pump it causes long term damage, so for the sake of £60 for a new fuel pump and filter I replaced it while I had the tank drained.

It might have just been the filter, or the pump could have been faulty - but both have been replaced.

A quick test of my luggage set up for touring, mainly to see if my tent would be OK on top of my Kriega set up:

Just need to see if there's ventureshield or similar paint protection film in small strips to protect the tail where the Kriega straps come out from under the seat.

Where did you get yer pump and hose etc ? I have a feeling i have to do the same to mine . Also how did you seal the pump to the tank as dose it not require some special sealant ?

I didn't need the hose, but apparently BMW part number 16121180040 fits perfectly, you just need some clamps for it.

I didn't use anything to seal it back up, some places say use loctite (can't remember which one) and some say don't use anything, there's an O-ring wich sits against the bottom of the tank to seal it. I've had zero fuel leaks, been checking each day. it's got a full tank of fuel in it now too.

Clutch lever started feeling a little vague last night so swapped out the third party cable for an OEM one I had lying around plus cleaned and greased all the mechs.

Doesn't feel much different from rolling it in the garden but it's been something I've needed to do for a while anyway so at least it's all sorted.

Took an eye full of brake cleaner though :(

I have not had mine apart yet ... Is the small cylinder at the end of the hose another filter ? If so did you change that as well ?

That's the main filter - if your bikes not done that many miles I wouldn't worry about that, but if it's over 20k then you may as well replace it. I didn't as my bike has only done 13k miles.

The set up is:

"Teabag" pre-filter on the fuel pump, through the pump, through the U shaped hose, into the main fuel filter, through a short git of hose, into the plate which fixes onto the tank, then out into the fuel hose.

Mine is only 13k .. BUT i had loads of issues with water in my tank as the bike had to stay outside under a cover for a couple of years .. so twice the tank was full of water due to a blocked breather (common issue) So im thinking change the filter as well... But no hits on ebay for the round filter . I also read some threads on various aprilia forums that after trying to use normal hose clamps they had to buy the ones used by aprilia and the tool to fit them as the screw clamps just crush and crimp the cable

Took my Mille in for its MoT today. She's been sat up on her paddock stands since September 2016 hooked up to an Optimate. Fired up first time, quick check of the tyre pressures, chain tension, fluid levels etc and off we went. Sailed through, not even an advisory. Who says Italian bikes are unreliable? :D

Oh and she's 17 years old today. Happy birthday Mille!!

Busy bike day today.

Fitted a new Vario screen to make the long days a little easier. Also fitted some extra hand guard protection too. Rather grumpily re-fitted the pannier mounts (I think they're a bit ugly when the panniers aren't on - they look like scaffolding) and fitted the new panniers.

Really late reply. Up is smooth as butter. Down is hit and miss, but tbh not bothered by it. 65ms is the perfect cut time for smooth upshifts.

Cheers, I was tempted by the official triumph one as I saw one going for £159 which is half the price of brand new. They are good fun though but you can't downshift with them, did you install it yourself?
