What did you do to your bike today?

Had it serviced by a chap called Muddysump, well know traveling mechanic in Triumph circles.

Got a major service done which included valves checked for £400, nearly £200 cheaper than local dealers and I didn't even have to leave the house.
 
Rode it to the Valley of Rocks yesterday:



Thought I'd include a rock in front of the bike, just to make the photo extra special :D Think I may have parked up where 44Teeth did a piece with the RS/890R a while back, as it looked familiar.

Suffice to say, it was a scorcher - I would have loved to have jumped into the sea for a cool off! But decided to just ride home instead, and ended up playing fuel Russian roulette - had 11 miles left when I reached Minehead and thought "I'll just stop at the new Esso up the road" - arrived with a range of 0 miles :eek:

Finally got around to putting a phone mount on too, so I used Calimoto to try a new route to Minehead, some of it was a but poop, but there were also a few amazing roads – had 21 miles on the B223 (iirc) through a national park/nature reserve that looked a lot like the Brecons, but my god! The road was bumpy as hell for a good 6-7 mile, and there was a REALLY tight left-hander that almost caught me out.

Edit: just looked up the distance from the point I noticed 11 miles left, to the Esso - 22 miles :eek: :eek: No wonder I had twitchy bum syndrome thinking "where is it, I'm sure it's close" - I really should research places better then assuming :D But at least I know I can't really trust my fuel range - when I did fill up, I only got 14.7 in the tank - iirc it's a 15.5 litre on the RS. Next time, I'll stop at Morrisons in Minehead!

I left the house at 0600 to do a 420km tour while no one was on the mountain passes.

I only stopped to take one photo before I hit the passes:

Today was Gurnigel, Grimsel, Furka, Susten, Panormastrasse, Schallenberg, and then Gurnigel again in the opposite direction.

There simply isn't a better bike than the 890R for the proper hairpin filled twisties, a 765 RS probably comes close though.

It's over 30C at home but 11C at the top of the first pass.

Just finished fitting a quickshifter to my Street Triple R, also fitted some new front pads just in time to get it MOT'd tomorrow AM :p

Planning to change the gearing as well but didn't get stuff ordered in time.

Then a trackday at Castle Combe on Wednesday, forecast says rain, but think I'd prefer that to last weeks crazy temps...

I had been telling myself I wasn't going to bother MOT/Insuring/Taxing it and just use it for Trackdays but after not really using it much I went to Cadwell Park at the end of May and felt uncomfortable to say the least, so gonna put it back on the road and before trackdays at least spend some time just out riding and getting comfortable again. Of course I left it way too late this time but also got back-to-back days at Cadwell Park next month so all good :D
 
Quickshifters are awesome :D

On the road it's nice, but on track when you're shifting up near the redline is sooooo good, well worth it if just for the smiles :D

Put up the first session finally, it started off rather wet but did improve over the course of the day :)

The quickshifter teamed with the Race fit exhaust I fitted to my striple a couple of weeks ago is definitely the best smiles per miles money I've spent, get it on some nice NSL country sweeping roads and it's ridiculous :D
 
I can imagine with an even more lairy exhaust it's even better :D Mine has 'just' the underseat Arrow cans.

On a different topic what are the tyres to have these days?

When I was using the bike as a daily commuter I ran (and it still has) Michelin Pilot Road 3's, they'res plenty of life left in the ones on there but realised they're a good 6-7 years old now and as it's mostly a track bike I'm thinking of getting some more track oriented tyres, back in the day it was Pirelli Supercorsas as the go-to tyre, still the one to go for or are there better options?

I'm also thinking if I do go down that route trying to pick up a spare set of wheels for 'wets' (not sure if I'll go full wets or just something like the Pilot Roads as a road legal but better in the wet setup...)
 
Nice to have a significant other who rides. Mine just booked her theory test but could only get first week in September, so she's a bit disappointed that the summer will be gone before she can get going on a lesson package.

My Wife passed her CBT and had a Grom for a few months before falling pregnant via IVF. Though she was very competent, I would be worried sick if she was riding a big bike; I don't k ow why, but the 125 felt a tad too gutless to be dangerous, whereas a 'big bike' is a whole other kettle of fish.
