What did you do to your bike today?

Off to BMW on Saturday - following the discovery of the wobbly gear lever, they've asked if I can bring her in for a going over.

Here's hoping they don't knacker anything else

Think I'll get them to sort the bolt that needs to be drilled out - might also see if they can reset the calibration for the suspension too, as that needs a GS911 tool to do.

Here's hoping I get a loan of something tasty whilst they're working away - though ideally something naked, as I don't think I can do the racing crouch any more :D

Had the 1290GT in for 18k valves etc, and getting the Track Pack added so I can try and entertain myself enough to avoid buying something else for a while.

My courtesy bike was a 790 Adventure. A bit over 600 miles on it and the warning about being overdue for its running in service was lit up. Also no heated grips. And no adjustable suspension but maybe that's par for the course on that model. In any case, it was comfortable suspension wise, but the quickshifter/shifter was finnicky and sometimes I'd go up one and it would refuse to do another up, forcing a clutch or clutchless change. And 93hp is a right slow coach after the 1290! (yes obviously it takes a different style and I needed to be better at keeping it in a certain rev range to make the most)

Also, their current TFT setup (albeit on different screens between twins and v-twins I've tried) is annoying. On mine (the first gen of TFTs I think) if I hit Menu it instantly goes into the menu. Great. On the new one you hit Menu/Enter and it performs a flipping animation before loading the menu screen. That animation takes well over a second. Shirley this wasn't coded by a motorcyclist!

Booo!

Got soaked going to Bristol - forecast apps did the same old thing; yes it'll be lovely sun today.... 10 minutes into the ride and I'm regretting wearing leather and jeans, but thankful of the Road 6s :D

Spent about 2 hours waiting with a soggy arse in the Dealership, not 100% what they did, but they at least removed the completely shot bolt on the shift rod; so that saved me the job of drilling it out and possibly causing damage.

The chap at BMW was apologetic for the hassle, but it sounds like it was all stuff outside of his remit - the service team were down nearly 50% on staffing levels, and have something like 140 bikes to sort (guessing they're booking things months ahead).

Hopefully that's the end of any more nasties, and I can get on with putting some more miles on her - though the service is due next month booooooooooo!

Having had running issues for some time, I've been playing parts roulette. Replaced the CDI/Igniter the other day and it would appear that was the issue. Several hundred, issue free miles later, I guess that's a win, so happy days! Chasing intermittent, seemingly electrical issues on a 30+ year old machine is never fun though.

Investigated a random indicator fault where the right hand indicator would blink a damn site faster than the left...

turns out that at some point in the bikes 23 year history, one of the previous owners changed the original indicators for something off a different era bike. In doing so they changed the lamps from the required 12V 21W to 12V 10W which resulted in fast blinking indicators. To negate this, they've taken a 12v 23/8w 2pole lamp and soldered between the 2 poles thus increasing the resistance of the circuit and reducing the blink speed. Well it worked for a while but now its not playing ball so i need to sort this out!

I've been trying to find some 12v 21w lamps that fit these indicators with no luck (all correct wattage lamps are way too big to fit behind the lenses). I'm left with a couple of choices... try to locate a set of orrignal CBR 600 F4 indicators, buy an aftermarket set (recommended by a workmate who has an 06 600RR) orrr try a bit longer to find some lamps that will fit these indicators.

Can you get a indicator relay designed for LEDs for your bike? That fixes the speed regardless of resistance or get some inline resisters again designed for LED indicators to fit.

Not sure to be honest, its definitely something i could look into though. I think LED indicators would look decent on the old gal.

Another run in with a feathered friend

Thumbnailed as it's gore:

Hit the left fork leg and was pretty much torn apart - was dead up against the rad for a bit, before falling (under my rear wheel I presume). Got the pressure washer out as soon as I got home, as the bits had been happily cooking away on the rad - treating me to some right pongs!

Edit: as a side note, the new slip on sounded lovely!
