What did you do to your bike today?

Crashed it. Pulled out of a side road on Putney High Street in to stationary traffic, turning right. A bus was on my right so I was extra careful, pulled out and this delivery guy ploughed straight in to the side of me. We pulled over, he spoke about four words of English, we did the "are you ok?" thing, checked for damage, he fist bumped me, got on his bike and rode off. It happened so quickly I just stood there wondering wtf just happened. A few small broken plasticky bits, nothing I can't sort by pulling it apart and reseating the clips. Bike is otherwise perfectly fine. Not sure if to report it or not, I took his plate and could probably report him for a hit & run but not sure it's even worth it. The speed with which he wanted to GTFO tells me he probably wasn't insured on that bike or something.

He was definitely speeding and also on the wrong side of the road.

What would you do?

Hmmm.

KTM were trying to flog me a 1290 SD today, as they are something like 14k new at the moment! Guess they ignored my buying reason of looking for something lighter and less 'focused' than an S1000R for bumpy B road blasts
They're awesome for B road blasts the torque catapults you out of corners.
I do understand what you mean though.

If it really is just a case of popping some bits back in and everything is good then I'd probably avoid the hassle and just let it slide to be honest.

Hit a speed bump in my bike buying plans but I think I’m fairly certain on a 1290R but I’ve also ridden a friends MT10 and I had lots of fun on it so that could potentially be in the mix too! If I had the room I’d just buy all 3 :p
I went to look at a MT10 before I bought the S1000R and upon viewing it my mind was made up instantly not to get one.
I really should have kept my 1290 SD :(

I’ve had an S1000r already so can’t have another one just yet :p

I think my mind will still choose the 1290r, I’ve wanted one for years now so I’ll scratch the itch and finally get one!

Bummer, sucks I know and feels bad, but if the damage isn't significant and there's the remotest chance he was uninsured then I wouldn't start the process. The police won't register a flicker of interest, so to take it anywhere you'll have to go via your insurance, which then automatically counts against you if not resolved. Before you know it, Fourth Dimension are calling every five minutes trying to "help" you.

Since the Hammersmith bridge closed and all the lanes have been chopped for cycle lanes, Putney, Fulham Palace road etc have been a mare. I really don't miss the commute, even if it means I hardly ride any more.

That's my thinking too.

Oh and Wandsworth bridge is currently shut too, I zip through stationary traffic every day, it's great. Until someone ploughs in to the side of me, obvs.

Buy one, ride it for a bit sell it and get another... You can't ride all bikes at once.

Really sorry to hear that. Put his plate into AskMID and see if he has insurance. But, if he is a delivery rider, there is also a strong chance his own policy only covers him for personal use and not business. Did he have any Uber, Deliveroo, JustEat signs etc, because the company may provide business insurance. If the damage is only slight, then I probably wouldn't risk a rejected claim (for the above reason) which puts a record out there. I guess it depends on the cost of repair.

I work around that area and the traffic can be a nightmare. Delivery riders are also a double nightmare everywhere because they are often riding on a CBT only, haven't passed a theory test, and are in a big rush.
