What do you pay for Sky / Virgin media

Thanks Alan :)

Daft question. Do you need a phone line for cable (fibre) internet? On here it says not but then looking at Sky Fibre standard that's on half price for 6 months you do need a phone line

Is BT Infinity 2 Unlimited 76mb worth £40 a month (inc phone line) over Sky standard? The thing is we only have a 12 month house contract so may not even be there 18 months, in which case we would have to pay off the contract I guess

I'm seriously considering ditching Sky, the only thing keeping me is the F1 and Football.

But lately all my football watching is done in the pub, which leaves the F1.

Just call them each time and say you want to cancel. Took about 10mins to get my price lowered by £10.

I understood they quite often let people cancel now to try and discourage this.

I was annoying by VM from the start tbh. My package was:

100Mb broadband
Medium TV Package
Phone line free evening calls

£36.99.

Pretty happy with that until they put it up to £39.99 2 months into an 18 month contract. Pee take I think.

Yet I bet you use torrent sites, know people who "borrow" their mate's Sky Go log ins, stream sports matches from the internet etc. It's no different.

Haven't done in quite a few years now, since everything is easily available now through subscriptions. Also, "It's no different", that doesn't make it right/acceptable.
If you wanna be that guy though, then so be it.

No Sky HD channels with it? Oh dear.

Thanks Alan :)

Yes you do. I don't think you do with Virgin Media though.

Yes you will need a phone line regardless of which provider or package you choose. (Virgin excepted) Might be an idea to call rather than do it online and mention the BT price and see if the sales agent can do anything for you. Sky Fibre Pro is a 12 month contract but both other Fibre products are 18 months.

I paid 49 a month for
Sky HD everything
movies
Sports inc F1
Broadband ADSL.

Thanks to a kind forumite and their friends and family code.

Nothing as of yesterday but was paying £63 p/m for the full TV package. When I called to arrange a new deal the offered me a full £7.50 off but that didn't include the recently announced £3.50 increase, I expected a little more than that for a customer of 14 years but I guess not so cancellation went through.

My neighbour has just signed up and got 50% off everything for a year, I never got offered anything of the sort.

I think it terrible they treat existing customers so badly (especially 14 years!) but the offer everything on a plate to new customers.

How about keeping the old ones instead of getting new? This was one of the reasons I left Sky (twice)

Are well, im a new customer again now!

Edit - https://hyperoptic.com anyone heard of hyperoptic 1Gb fibre?! Its available to me and works out to be not much more than sky fibre pro or bt infinity 2. But is more than 10 times quicker!

With Virgin.

Pay £67 per month for

152mb broadband
Top TV package (minus sports and movies)
Free evening and weekend calls
2 x TiVo boxes

I pay Virgin Media £50pm for

XL TV
100mb internet
free weekend calls (have unlimited on mobile so anymore is useless)
TiVo box downstairs and HD box upstairs with the HD channels.

Nope but have now registered even though it's not available to me, thanks for the link.

I dont even know what I would do with 1gb internet! I generally just browse so its probably pointless!

There is the odd occasion I download a game on steam or watch a film but that's it. With 1Gb internet you could stream 4k!

I might just get Sky TV package with friend and family discount (again ta Alan) and standard free broadband. I can never really see myself even needing 38mb so why 1Gb interests me I have no idea.

Download an HD film in about 5 seconds, great. But then I don't have 2 or 3 hours to watch it!

Having too much when you don't use it is better than not having enough when you need it, well thats what I say to myself to justify my Infinity 2 line. :D

Its one thing having 76Mbps, maybe an average download speed of 8-9MB/s. Completely another having 1Gbps, averaging maybe 100MB/s!

At these speeds disk speed (and obviously disk space) start to play a bigger part if you are downloading gigabytes of data.

TV seems to be sorted with Sky friends and family complete package for £25/month.

Internet I am still thinking. Just get the standard naff free broadband which will be ok for £16/month (phoneline cost) or go BT/Sky/Hyperoptic fibre. (No virgin media in the area)
