What film did you watch last night?

Europa Report.
Big fan of Sc-iFi, more-so films like this, think Moon, Pandorum, Sunshine etc.

Many people didn't like the fast cuts and editing/camera work on IMDB it seems but I didn't have a problem with it, it gave it a bit more realism really. Other didn't like the ending calling it --should it have been actual events-- a failure to be a big deal, without spoiling it, of course it would be a huge deal.

Sound work was superb, what you'd expect from such a film.

Just watched this last night from your review.

Quite enjoyed it, though never got totally gripped by the characters themselves. Overall a good sci-fi but I probably enjoyed Moon, Pandorum and Sunshine more. : 6.5/10

Glad someone watched it based on my post!

Yup Pandorum and Moon are highly character focused with a much more relaxed pacing without the District 9 style interview format thrown in.

In Europa the pacing was quite fast and they didn't give enough time to the crew to get to know the characters. I didn't mention this before because I didn't feel the lack of this took anything away from the film because in its own way it did what it intended quite well.

Lockout

A man is wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. He's offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

6/10 your typical high tech prison story, think Fortress.
Pretty entertaining. If you liked fortress then chances are you will like this, if you didn't then avoid this.

Now You See Me 5/10

Started off well but lost it in the second half. Also the ending was obvious....

The twist was too obvious. The obvious misdirection was everyone being suspected as the 5th horseman except The Hulk (the best Hulk) who was doing his utmost to make it look like he wasn't the 5th Horseman. A twist worthy of M. Night Shambles post The Sixth Sense

Langoliers

It begins as a routine flight from Los Angeles to Boston - it becomes a living nightmare. Ten passengers wake in mid-flight. To their horror they are completely alone. Their crewless jet hurtling towards a world very different from the one they left behind. A world in which they may be the last souls alive.

2 part tv film

I know it's slated, but I think it's a great film.

Not done a post in here for a while.

This is the end - 4/10 not even funny
World War Z - 7/10
The purge - 5/10 not much of a movie, mildly entertaining.
42 - 7/10 story is well told, although not that amazing
Spring Breakers 3/10 not a good movie had to skip through it
The host 4/10 - had to edit my rating of this movie as forgot about the second half of the movie.
Olympus has fallen - 7/10 an ok action movie
Man of Steel - 7/10 a competent version of superman, although not a fan of superman
Anti-viral - 4/10 was quite disappointed with this movie, thought it was going to be better.
The Great Gatsby - 7/10 interesting movie but not that amazing.
Now you see me - 8/10 very entertaining and fan of Woody Harrelson movies and thought this one was quite good.
Phantom - 5/10 pretty boring account of a not very interesting story.
After earth - 6/10 will smith is barely in it and its very short, But high enough budget, think its more of a kids movie.
The hangover part 3 - 7/10 far better than the 2nd and had me laughing right the way through.

Langoliers

Langoliers was a 2 part movie on the telly, shown many years back.
I had no intention of watching it.
In fact I was doing something else while watching this.
I hadnt even heard of it.
Within 30 minutes, I stopped doing the other thing I was doing and watched this.

Very good movie.

9/10.

langoliers is on youtube if anyone wants to watch it in 360p while browsing the net or something :P
theres actually loads of full length movies on youtube and some of them are 720p which is more than watchable for me.

I guess youtube ignores them if there oldish films unless the owner complains of copyright/piracy. I'm assuming most of them nolonger care once they are past there sales peak and I guess if people like the movie and are prepared to watch it in fairly poop quality some of them are likely to add the film to their physical collection
