What film did you watch last night?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) (7/10)
Thoroughly enjoyed it, a mindless action filled romp.

Don't now if this is good or bad point but you could tell it was a Michael Bay film, sure he uses the same sound effects in all his films.

Big fan of Will Arnett, he plays Megan Fox's sidekick, the latter I can take or leave.

Another thing I noticed whilst watching is that CGI has got to a point now where it just looks natural, if you know what I mean?

Detachment (it's on Netflix)

Wow, not often moved by a film but this was a powerful performance by Adrian Brody, in what seems to be a completely unreleased or unknown film.
A story about a teacher in a school or badly behaved and LD children, but not quite with the usual Captain Carter style spin on it.

8/10 (and trust me most films struggle to make a 5 on my ratings)

"Inspired by the E.C. comics of the 1950s, George A.Romero and Stephen King bring five tales of terror to the screen."

A great Horror anthology.

Yeah.

Just me maybe, but i think the 2nd is the better, the raft being a real freakout.

Pulled edge of tomorow from the tv last night. Decent enjoyable watch, not as clever as oblivion, but even so, glad i got round to it.

Never realy champ somebody i find a looker in a film, but i now see emily blunt in a whole new light... completely different to say the adjustment bureau.

12 years a slave.

God damn it that was hard to watch. Brilliant film though, gripping and well directed. The lead character was excellent.

9/10

The Relic (1997)

Ok, it's an old one but I had just read the book and someone mentioned a film was made of it so decided to give it a watch.

Wish I hadn't! Very poor book to film translation. The main character in the book was not even in the film, location was changed (New York to Chicago) and most of the plot in the book ignored.

The best bit was when a SWAT guy on the museum roof pulled his buddy up through a skylight but the 'monster' had eaten his legs and the guy goes "Nooooooooooooo" with his hands in the air. Worst acting I have ever seen!

4/10 if you have read the book
Probably 6/10 if you haven't (cheesy 90's monster movie)

The Art of Steal 7/10.

Enjoyable heist comedy/drama with Kurt Russell. It's not a spoiler to say there's a twist but the fun is trying to work out who's trying to rip off who and how.

Fury - 7/10

Overall, it was an enjoyable film, certainly no Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers but there again they are pretty rare and I hadn't gone into the cinema expecting it to be. A previously reviewed, it did have the whiff of Inglorious in the adverts, fortunately it was nothing like it (can’t stand that film).

Much more could have been made of the film, character development in particular. (No spoiler) but there was no explanation as to why the new guy turned up which could have helped relate to the character more. They did attempt character development but as with a lot of films there days they didn’t really achieve it, although one scene in the house in particular did give a bit of an insight into the characters but to me it left more questions than answers.

I'm a WW2 nut and I knew I would have to turn off my brain and I did, although it wasn't overly cringe worthy as some more recent 'America saved the world' type WW2 films out there. Final scene was just LOL though.

If you like the genre or action in general then it's worth a watch. I definitely wouldn’t say I walked out of the cinema feeling like I deserved a refund :)

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Really enjoyed it, Hugh Jackman as wolverine just gets better and better.

Goes down as one to watch again sometime :)

I, Frankenstein

Pretty much what Krooton says.
Reasonably entertaining nonsense that makes you rate the actors for being able to keep a straight face while delivering their lines. If there's anyone else in the room with you that isn't watching it, I guarantee they'll be laughing at some of the dialogue even more than you.
The demons were very er, 'Buffy'. It was like a Blade/Buffy/Underworld mishmash with a touch of Van Helsing.

I was right about it being a good system workout. Lots of bass and surround action going on and pretty good to look at.

Where were all the humans and why didn't they notice all that going on in the middle of a city for one thing? Funny how both the Demons and the Gargoyles had everything going on in that particular city too.

6/10 Popcorn flick.

New turtles movie - 6/10 'tis okay as long as you ignore anything to do with the cartoon.

Let's be cops - 8/10 really enjoyed this, LOL moments.

Lucy - 7/10 could have been a lot better, but still good and worth a watch.
