What film did you watch last night?

It's a Musical?
Phew, glad I avoided that!

Todays watches have been TMNT and TMNT II. The 90s versions. Both give the Bayification 2014 version a good kicking. I'm refusing to watch three as they stopped using the Jim Henson Creature Workshop.

Dawn of the planet of the apes - 7/10

Above average, but the story felt a bit lost. All I can think throughout these films is how the certain apes are in the original original Planet of the Apes. The big orangutan for example being the smart intelligent one. A bit distracting for me personally! Not going to win any awards, Gary Oldman was 'meh' but Jason Clarke put up a relatively good performance. As usual the monkey acting was superb.

Worth a watch.

Frozen was a huge let down for me.
And one thing I cant understand - why didnt anybody tell me that this movie was a damn musical? I hate musicals!!!

It's a Disney animated film, I think I'd struggle to think of one that wasn't a musical

Anyway... It's good, but it's not as good as Tangled or Beauty and the Beast. And fair warning, both of those also feature songs and singing characters so are, quite arguably, musicals.

Dead Calm (1989)

80's slowly brooding suspense/thriller. Amazing what can be done with a cast of 3 people.

Had seen it a few times before, but it's been too long.

It's way up there in my top films.

7.6/10

If you haven't seen it and enjoy films, just get it and don't read up on it.

Edge Of Tomorrow:

Brilliant film. Wasn't expecting it either. Tom Cruise "brings it" in spades and it's got everything you need. Interesting story, good action, well acted, thought provoking stuff. Emily Blunt does a great job too. One of the best sci-fi films in many years.

9/10.

Sunshine 9/10
Absolutely love this film, for me the best space based sci-fi in the past 20 years that I can think of. I know some people don't like the twist, but it just adds something extra to the film.

John Wick 7/10

Retired hitman, Keanu, goes all balls out revenge nutso after some pesky eastern Europeans kill his dog and steal his car, grrrr!

First 20mins bit slow, but then mostly all action, some really good set pieces.

Boyhood 8/10.

13 years in the life of Mason, a lad who's not a dick, his family are not dicks and everyone is pretty much normal. It's hard to describe this film, well not so much a film but yearly snapshots of kids growing up, and anyone who doesn't like the idea of a Slow moving 3 hour film should stay clear, but for those that do like this sort of thing won't be disappointed.

Amores Perros - 9/10

Really very good, only dropped down to 9 for a couple of reasons. Each story felt like it couldn't hold its own as a single film, hence them being put together. The way they were interlinked was incredibly faintly done, which I suppose may have been their intention but the effect didn't work for me especially. It didn't grab me for the entirety either, the first third or so did however.

If you're a fan of foreign film, in this case Spanish, then absolutely check this out.

Sunshine 9/10

Some extra poop through the letterbox maybe :p

There are quite a lot, Monsters Inc, Toy Story, WallE, Ratatouille...etc.

I for one was quite surprised at how much of a "musical" it was. I think my girlfriend sold it to me as a Disney classic like those I mentioned above to get me to watch it.

I was disappointed by it though, it felt too "pop-y" if you know what I mean? Too commercial...lets get a hit single from this film as well as the usual merch avenues...whereas the others didn't feel as much like that. Story wasn't that great either.

All Pixar films, not Disney ;) I appreciate they're pretty much one and the same now, but it's a different style of film.

As said, they're Pixar studio films, not Disney. They've sort of been retroactively added to the Disney Classic library, but they're not really in the same vein as the main Disney Classic films.

It's got a fairly good soundtrack, and I say that as a parent of two girls who want it on in the car constantly... Love Is An Open Door is excellent; Let It Go scores massive points if only because it has a middle eight which isn't brain crushingly dull, which marks it out among practically all songs with a middle eight ever, and For The First Time In Forever is pretty good. The rest I'm not too fussed about.

I have to agree that story wise it isn't great, and I really don't understand the point of that stupid snowman.

Another 'horror' film...

At the devils door 4/10, same old same old, nothing really going on apart from a few moody monster shots, and then it ends in an a way it doesn't complete the story. 4 is probably too high, but the atmosphere was okay.

The reindeer in it was funny! :)
