What film did you watch last night?

Is there anything that you do like?

Plenty, but that doesn't make a crap film any less bad than it is. Films I've watched recently include...

Lets Be Cops, 5/10 maybe, it's daft, it knows it is, but there are good jokes, a half decent plot.

Corner Gas The movie 7/10 , I doubt anyone would like it without having seen the series.

Dirty Pretty Things 8-9/10 truly excellent film, brilliant cast, brilliant acting, well written, nicely shot.

But of these the latter is relatively old and wouldn't interest that many people, Corner Gas will be something almost no one here has watched so didn't feel it was worth mentioning, Lets be Cops more people might see but it's average, it doesn't have many discussion points, it is what it is.

Predestination had a lot of people rate it highly, I watched it and gave my view because a lot of people in here rated it, it felt more useful to rate that than the other films I watched this week thus that is the one I rated.

It's incredibly rare that in the first 20 minutes of the movie I want to skip forward 20 seconds at a time because the pace at which the story is being told at the bar feels quite literally like trying to stretch a boring story into something longer to meet a feature length film. It's not like this was an emotional story and the teller is struggling, or crying, or they are being interrupted, it's just being told at a snails pace because the film has exceptional little story and it's dragged out. Even the hobbit had a crap load of filler added to stretch the films out, most of it is twaddle and badly done but I never felt a point where they were actively talking slowly for no other reason than to make the film longer. I've never experienced that in a film really, certainly not in the first 20 minutes. LIke I said it came across as a 20 minute short that was needlessly stretched to feature length without the required extra story being added and I was not even remotely surprised to find out it was based on a short story and had almost nothing added to it.

2012

Might be 2 years past it's sell date, but it's still got one or more of the best action disaster scenes ever.

Might be pure unbelievable, but that limo chase out of la with every conceivable object missing them by an inch, with a whole lot'a luck thrown in for added effect.

Purest of dumb $%£$% ever:)

Yeah, must say that I didn't think too highly of After Earth either.

But I have watched How to Train Your Dragon 2 this afternoon, and thoroughly enjoyed it :) A very solid 8/10 from me.

I enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon 2, too.
I think that was one of the best films I've seen in 2014.
It was a nice follow up to the first movie.

Lucy - I know it's sci-fi but this film is just ridiculous. Never really goes anywhere. Maybe the airline edited too much out!

I really liked the first How to Train your Dragon but the second didn't do an awful lot for me. Along the lines of a 8+/10 for the first but 5-6/10 for the second. Jokes weren't as good, the general story wasn't as good, no where near as good as the first.

As for Lucy, nothing good about it, when a film goes the absolutely no logic pure action route which this did, the action is dire. She barely uses her powers in the action scenes, her action scenes/power usage is pretty much able to be measured in seconds rather than minutes in the whole film. It's the equivalent of a Transformers film which used the robots for a minute in the entire film.

Which is a shame as the Korean boss chap's last film was supposedly Oldboy, which was just superb

Just watched Predestination and I wasn't super impressed. I don't know if it was meant to be full of plot twists but I suspected them all well before they were revealed and I didn't feel particularly smart for doing so either.

6/10 is probably about right. Quite a good story but nothing special.

Drunkenmaster - like me I sense you exercised restraint when providing your thoughts on Lucy. What the hell were those cut scenes all about? I get the connection but weird or what! Humping animals in the middle of a mainstream movie. The whole plot is just plain stupid let alone the fact she barely demonstrates any kick ass powers, just boring mind control which I could get anyone to act out and record on my iPhone. It's like the writer ran out of ideas. The ending was hurried and suffered one of the most lacklustre car chases and shootout I've ever seen.
And the flash drive. Won't give too much away in case anyone else is foolish enough to watch it. But that was just an lol moment. Actually know I didn't lol. I cringed.
