What film did you watch last night?

I think from now on we should all let easyrider post his views on any film first so we can like what he likes and dislike what he dislikes. Mark Kermode lite.

Kermode Liked Godzilla...

I thought it was boring and didn't care about any of the characters...;):D

Having said that...when I went to see Interstellar and talked to my students about what I didn't like and what was flawed etc... on key scenes. Kermode did pick up on these key scenes when I watched his 5 live review on my return...

Spotting GUFF or crude exposition is not hard...I could rip the Equaliser to shreds for it...But the film is not worthy of my response. I mean it wasn't just me who was laughing out loud at some scenes in the film at the cinema.

It was utter Dross. :p

Sometimes you just have to switch off and enjoy. Most films, if you take a good look at them, are pretty **** but it's best not to take a good look at them.

I enjoyed The Equaliser mostly because Denzel Washington is my favourite actor.

If I said The Terminator is my favourite film of all time as it's the film that's given me most pleasure, first saw it on cinema release in the UK in 85 and seen it over 100 times since, I'm sure you would think I was a film retard but that doesn't make it any less a valid favourite film for me. It may not have the acting/directing/cinematography chops my second favourite film of all time has, Once Upon A Time In America (proper full version), but I enjoy that on a different level to The Terminator.

Its all about the flavour the Director intends...When Interstellar is spouted as an Intelligent film by Nolan, that makes you think, then it should retain this flavour throughout...But it doesn't... it becomes comedy farce in places and totally misses the mark...gratuitous exposition that insults intelligence is peppered throughout etc..

The Terminator is a classic and one of my all time favourite films...In fact I struggle to find fault with it.

A film Like Avatar is vacuous in its storytelling but that's not the point of the movie...Its a great film for its spectacle. Godzilla is neither...Battle of the five armies is neither...

My favourite film is Highlander...Its Brilliant...But flawed but it knows it is..The director knows it was...

A fat guy wanting to become a security guard is so wafer thin it becomes dross...Its a non story...It carries no emotional charge...an yet the majority of the film is geared towards it and ultimately we don't care either way.

See the distinction?

White House Down

dreadful film - whilst I enjoyed "Olympus has fallen", White House Down was dreadful in comparison. Cheesy acting, dreadful special effects (really really bad), and overall just rank rotten.

2/10 at best - up there with another shocker - Battleships.

Inbetweeners 2

Alright, script very poor as compared to the TV series. Enjoyed it marginally less than the first film, although a few proper laughs. 6/10

The Equalizer 7/10 so far, I'm only half way through ( cuppa tea and a pee break lol )

Yeah it's just a run of the mill action movie, what else were people expecting, it's an entertaining watch on my day off, freezing outside and heating on full blast ;)

Just wait for
B&Q
and the pointlessness of it...Its not even clever, entertaining or new...Its a Budget decision :p

Saw Five Armies - 8/10 from me. Some decent fight scenes, and it felt as if there was generally something going on the whole time. The other two films were padded out by overly long shots of the countryside and pans of people walking along mountains.

Lone Survivor - 7/10 Not a bad action film at all, but I couldn't help
singing Ride of the Valkyries as the helicopters came in near the end
.

Predestination 2/10, slowest most boring film I've watched in a while. Every story told in it was done insanely slowly because there was almost nothing to this film, I'm just surprised Peter Jackson wasn't behind it, a 10 minute story made into a very very very long film, with 3 people in it, who say nothing interesting start to finish.

Would have made a semi interest short, as a feature film and a long one at that, laughable.

Funnily enough I read a little online and find out that first it's based on a short story and expanded into a feature length film, I've also seen it suggested that the entire point of the short story was to be satire in paradox/time travel, ie making it truly ridiculous and impossible and basically not making any sense on purpose.

That is basically how the film feels except there is no humour in it, it seems to have taken a satirical short story and turned it into a much longer serious and utterly retarded film.
