About Time
Seeing that it had a good rating and reviews on IMDB, we thought we'd give it a watch. It was a good film and we did enjoy it, but we couldn't quite get over the large plot holes enough to give it as high a score as IMDB has. A solid 6.5/10.
Caught up with a few films over my Easter break
1: Defiance 6.5/10 good film but a bit to slow for my liking
2: Get Hard 3/10 Will Ferrel should have known better
3: Airplane! 7/10 not as good as I remember but a good palette cleanser following get hard.
4: Chef 8/10 great feel good movie just don't watch it if your hungry
Had a rather busy weekend watching films.
I have now sat through all of the Hobbit Films and all of the Lord of The Rings films.
Finished watching the last one at 01:30 last night - can't believe how long the ending drags on for the last film.
Really enjoyed them all...well I must have done to watch them all pretty much back to back.
9/10 for keeping my interest.
I was quick to judge earlier in saying the Hobbit films are better when in fact they are equal.
(had the "why are you you not decorating" eyes burning holes in the back of my head all weekend so just lounged a bit more and made my intentions pretty clear by turning the sound up)
American Pie meets Bring It On... and actually surprisingly funny for a teen comedy, and some very tasty ladies.
6/10
Hot Tub Time Machine
GF made me watch this due to there being a sequel coming out this yet. I never watched it because it looked crap. I was wrong. Plenty of laughs, and I am looking forward to the second.
7/10
Evil Dead (original 80s)
Really showing its age with film quality and special effects, but some good laughs due to it being so bad.
5/10
Evil Dead 2
Now that's more like it! Better balance of horror and intentional comedy. "Groovy" was just a brilliant line!
6/10
Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness
What. The. Actual. ****?! So bad... it's still bad. Not even vaguely in tune with the first 2, slapstick humour more slapstick than even comedies from that time. The only saving grace was that we watched the final half at double speed, which was very funny at times.
1/10
The Tale of Princess Kaguya
GF's a massive Ghibli fan, so we settled in to watch this. We both came away a bit confused to be honest.
First, the nipples and toddler penises weirded us out. Then the story took a somewhat standard "parents projecting on to their children" angle, which was fine. The fraudster suitors were lol, especially when one died. The the moon people thing comes out of left field and we were both all WTF? Then her childhood sweetheart basically agrees to abandon his wife and kid for her, yet again cementing a theme that all guys are douchebags who will do anything to bang a pretty woman.
Certainly didn't tug on any heart strings, and well below most other Ghibli offerings imo.
Interstellar. 8.8 rating on IMDB? Really? I just couldn't get on with this film at all. The film started to get a bit better from the 2 hour mark. Not a film I'll be in a rush to watch again.
Watched Margin Call the other night - I really wanted to like this film but there was just far too much that went over my head! 5/10 (although it's probably great if you are an investment banker!)
Cheers for that, at least that clues me in a little (there's also a longer vid in the youtube sidebar related recommendations at about 25 mins in length that does an ever better job at interpreting everything imo). Far out stuff, would never have even bothered to try to piece that together after one watch. (I actually dismissed it as being deliberately provocatively ambiguous and artsy for the sake of it with no clear meaning.)
This Is Spinal Tap 8/10 - Always heard about it, never watched it. It was actually enjoyable but short. I think if you know your older rock bands you will see LOTS of references. If you haven't I still reckon you'd catch about 3 or 4
