What film did you watch last night?

American Made (2017) - 7/10

A passable but somewhat unremarkable documentary with a rather reserved (but well-acted) Tom Cruise in the lead.

The story holds your interest and covers a lot of different events, but both it and the setting have been done before and although there are some comical moments and good presentation choices, they are few & far between.

It's like the light version of the Goodfellers with Tom Cruise in the lead.

No, not Goodfellas (I own that since it's a classic!), American Made! I run hot and cold on Cruise but a comparison to Goodfellas is a seal of approval in my book.

Ah I see, yeah, American Made is a bit like that, but more like a lite version, throw in a hint of Wolf of Wallstreet in there too.

All base on a true story, all involve "normal" people then getting really rich, its an easy watch but what lets American Made down is I think ultimately in a few years, it is going to be forgotten.

Guardians of the Galaxy V2

Really enjoyed this film. Done with a sense of humour and a decent enough story line. Apparently Vin Diesel is in it but I never spotted him. Guessing he was heavily made up. Would watch again.

1. Interstellar
2. Inception
3. Gladiator
4. The Dark Knight
5. Man of Steel

my fav zimmer soundtracks. The guy is a machine...so many absolute epic soundtracks that have elevated films into the stratosphere tbh.

So many people say, I'm generally not into over inflated bombast, part's of his work on pirates sounds like parody of a Michael Bay movie.
In recent times I'm more a fan of Fight club, any trent reznor, requiem for a dream and more sympathetic scores. I thought the guy on Logan did well though his back catalogue is patchy. Recent disappointment was Morricone on hateful 8 as he's one of the greatest of all time imho!

The Dark Tower - One of the flattest films I've seen for a ages. Never became exciting because it never felt like there was any threat. Seemed a super rich world but they just couldn't make it particularly enjoyable - odd, as there was nothing obviously terrible about it. The sum of all parts never came together.

4/10

King Arthur: Legend of The Sword

HAHAHA WTF? :D
Before watching, I'd already accepted that it wasn't going to be the greatest film I'd ever seen, but even so, it was hilariously terrible in most areas.
It's on the verge of being so bad, it's good. Sadly, it's mostly just bad, although it's fun it's own way if you don't try to analyze it.

Take a seriously out of place attempt at Lock Stock/Snatch style dialogue and storytelling technique, borrow bits from other fantasy films, throw in a load of terrible acting and a crap ton of OTT CGI and this is what you get.

I at least enjoyed the slightly different twist on King Arthur, which is a story that's been told a bunch of times.

Neither the best nor the worst film I've seen recently. I gave it 6/10 which is my "enjoyed it but wouldn't rush out to recommend it" score.

Watched GOTG2 recently and was disappointed, first film was a solid 7.5/10, new one I really struggled with, I give it 5.5/10. I think the whole thing just felt too forced, the first one was a light-hearted adventure but they should have left it at GOTG1.

Best film I've seen recently is still Get Out.
