What film did you watch last night?

War for the Planet of the Apes. - 9/10

I wasn't really expecting much from this one, but I'd actually rate this as the best film of the trilogy. You could watch this in isolation and still enjoy it. There are a few clever little bits that play homage to the original film and series. Pleasantly surprised.

Watched Logan last night, I’d seen it at the cinema but it was a much sadder film the second time around because you knew the tragedies before they happened. A really bold and well executed X-men film.

I watched the Last Jedi the 2nd time last night with a friend who is also his 2nd viewing.

I was bored during the casino bit, in fact during that bit I felt really hungry and tired for some reason and watched to either nod off for a bit or head out to get a hotdog. Apart from the Red room and the ending, most of the movie felt really flat but my friend found it much much better the 2nd time round. We had totally a different experience.

Funny how that turned out as I really enjoyed it the 1st time.

Hostiles (2017) - 3/10

A slow, boring and drawn out film with a story that doesn’t really go anywhere and say or do anything meaningful or original.

The characters don’t have much personality beyond being gruff, strong and silent, and although events do happen along their journey, they are unoriginal and over too quickly.

Great scenery and strong acting performances, but it doesn’t seem as though they had much to work with.

Watched this as well last night. Pretty good overall. Good trilogy.

Boyhood - 9/10

Clever, emotional, dedicated and real.

It must/should have been really bloody hard to chose the 2015 Oscar for best picture. Boyhood, Birdman and Whiplash are all great films, all 3 I own on Blu-ray.

Enduring Love - Good film with great performances from Craig, Ifans and Morton. I know that some were disappointed with the ending but as a philistine who's not read the book I was generally satisfied.

Dunkirk. - 2.5/10

I was expecting some atmospheric historically correct window on the on the Dunkirk evacuations of 1940 with some drama to drive the story. In the same sort of vein as band of brothers, with a British twist.

Unfortunately is was dull as dishwater from start to finish, none of the characters were remotely engaging bar the skipper of the little boat. The sound track was dire and the narrative just poor. Only parts that held my interest were the Spitfire skirmishes and they weren't brilliant either. I wanted it to be sentimental and flag waving in the same way that The Battle of Britain, 1969 film was. You knew what the film was within 30 seconds of the soundtrack starting and actually cared if the cast survived!!!

I seem to be in the minority but I actually liked the film.
Okay, i agree it wasn't an action lets blow up everything in sight & save the world Hollywood extravaganza which I think a lot of people who watched it expect it to be , but I certainly don't think it was as bad a many made it out to be.

To add in 4k it looks & sounds stunning.
