What film did you watch last night?

Full Metal Alchemist...not sure how to score this, it was bizarre and if you happen to be watching this without having seen the anime (not sure why you would) then it would have been totally meaningless, incoherent and terrible. Fortunately, having seen some of the anime I actually understood what was going on and recognised various scenes in the movie. As a result I found it oddly entertaining and kind of fun seeing a live action version of it. Doubt I would be brave enough to recommend it to anyone though :)

As for Drive vs Baby Driver, they are two different films for two different audiences. While some can enjoy both of course, most often I would expect people to be pro one and anti another. I enjoyed Baby Driver, but I found Drive to be torturously boring, but I would, my simplistic taste in movies is as entertainment rather than art, so films that are more artistic tend to not reach my interests, doesn't make the film crap, just not for me and my simplistic tastes - I mean, not Transformer level taste but I am more action than art for my films.

The Death of Stalin,
"The funniest British film in years" or so it say's on the cover. It's not a bad film it's just not that funny. It has a great cast as well so I was expecting big things from it, sadly it failed to deliver.

Get Out

Yeah, I can see why this was praised by almost everyone, fresh idea, creepy, and funny in places.

I predicted what was going on right before he flashed Andre.

8/10

You're a smarter than me then :p I was really confused at some points in the film - Something was going on, I just couldn't figure it out :p

After I watched it, I watched this - Really interesting theories, and there were some neat little bits that I clearly missed - I will need to watch it again for sure :D

Heat - 8/10 - Val Kilmers elbow WTF?????????? I must have watched this dozens of times yet only just noticed it :D Other than that it's still great but feels overly long in the last 1/3 of the film and seems to drag scenes out.

I was going to comment on what I thought of EasyRider's opinions, but you know what they say; if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Please do, People on here are commenting on films they havent actually seen...

You think this is OK in a "what film did you watch last night?"

Also again why feel threatened by my opinions. We have been here before...people complaining I ( I mean I ) have ruined their experience of a particular movie....This is ridiculous!

Plus Just saying you don't like something without a valid reason is not helping anyone...Its a cop out.

Why don't you like my opinions? Why do you feel the need to respond with hatred rhetoric?

Fact is Drive is a completely different movie to BD and its not my fault if people don't get that....Its about a driver...yes and Drive is about a driver but the two films are so far apart they don't even belong in the same genre.

Its like comparing a Dolly Parton record to a Radiohead record !

Its nonsense.

I wasn't commenting on a specific film, I just think you're an arrogant obnoxious ***** frankly. You seem to think your opinion is more valid than anyone else's. I couldn't give two hoots what qualification you have that makes you feel so superior to everyone else. The fact is films, like music, are personal things. People don't have to have the same opinion, but that doesn't mean their opinion is wrong, and they certainly don't have to justify themselves to you. It's their opinion. You're entitled to yours too, but it doesn't make yours any more right or wrong.

The fact you belittle other people's opinions because you disagree just shows you're a little man with ego issues and should be ignored, which is exactly what I shall be doing from now on.

How can one have an opinion on a film when they haven't seen it?

I'll give solid reasoning for my opinion. Which makes for a richer thread.

Or I could post

Shape of the water 3/10

Wonder Woman 5/10 it’s was nicely made Gal Gadot was easy on the eye Chris Pine and David Thewlis stole the show. But it was just a bit meh, Wonder Woman was wrong about everything from start to finish and ignored Steve’s advice but that’s ok because she knows she’s right ?? I haven’t seen Justice League yet but it must be a right turkey if this is the best DC film.
I thought although the film was generally well made the fighting CGI wasn’t even up to Matrix standards. The modern films look their best when the largest proportion of practical effects are used and all of the Amazon fights broke the suspension of disbelief for me. What the over powered heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, Thor etc need is balanced enemies. The latest Thor film seemed to manage this but Superman and Wonder Woman seem to miss the mark. Wow super powered person beats up conscripts with no feeling of risk... Yawn, then when the super battle turns up she goes from getting smashed to suddenly winning cos of the power of love. I had no emotional investment in the final battle of the hero, where as Steve gets all the real emotional heft. It wasn’t bad but the Misses and I were using our tablets by the end.

LOL, Easyrider still unable to understand that this is NOT a "let me tell you why your opinion of a movie is wrong" thread, it's a "here's what film I watched and what I thought of it" thread where no-one wants you to critique their opinion of a movie. It doesn't seem that hard to understand :)

Jumanji 2 - 6/10 - Much better than the trailers led me to think but still fairly bland at the end of the day. The Rock and Kevin Hart have a good shtick together (as seen previously in CIA) but it just fails to really bring many/any big laughs outside of the physical comedy they have but I thought Jack Black does a very good turn as the "valley girl" trapped in a 40yo man's body who overcomes her body confidence issues. The disappointment for me was Karen Gillan who doesn't really seem to have much to do outside of a Dance Fight and the script doesn't really seem to allow her much growth as a person (as opposed to Jack Black). Oh and Nick Jonas is rubbish but he's not really an "actor" so I'll let that slide. Apart for characters the script was fairly bland, the pacing seemed pretty good and I never felt bored, the villain was a waste of Bobby Cannavale's talent and finally the effects were for the most part OK but in the "big" scenes the animal CGI (rhinos vs helicopter, hippos, elephants & jaguars) was nowhere near as "realistic" as the movies budget should have allowed, although whether that was a director choice to keep them almost looking like computer game characters rather than photo-realistic animals is something I'm not sure of.

Gringo (2018) - 4/10

Slow and boring at the start, but it eventually picks up and becomes an unremarkable kidnapping drama with a focus on corporate business and sexual affairs.

Some darkly humorous moments spice up the relatively bland plot, as does the good cast of actors, but overall, it is functional entertainment and nothing more.
