What film did you watch last night?

Infinity war 9.9/10

Best avengers film yet? Totally on par with gotg.
2h40m of nonstop. If you like these films then this is the deep fried kebab of movies.
It makes black panther look like a joke.
I see what you did there! Having watched it in Glasgow the sign did raise a laugh!

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - 9/10

An epic undertaking on a massive scale that definitely pays off – it successfully combines each of the characters (and their franchises) together well, weaving them into a new story which they can all (almost equally) partake in.

Visually it is superb with excellent special effects and settings throughout, and there is the right amount of humour spread across the characters.

The plot transitions from the different group of heroes well, and manages to balance the story with the action – the slower, emotional scenes often have the same impact as the large scale and explosive actions scenes.

However, the same criticisms of the Marvel series of movies are still there – the heroes are thrown about seemingly to no consequence, the plot just trundles along at times with little respite, and some of the fight scenes are so quick so you can’t see the action.

Suburra - 7/10

Enjoyable, but harsh and brutal film. Watched this off the back of having watched all three series of Gomorrah recently and it doesn't reach the heights of that, but it is enjoyable nonetheless. Might try the TV series next! :)

Avengers IW

Not a fan to be honest, I was bored through a considerable amount of it. Couldn't care less about any of the characters which really puts a downer on when things happen to them. It just annoyed me that these good actors were doing this film instead of working in better projects.

4/10

Insidious: The Last Key - 6.5/10. A couple of good jump scares and links to all the movies, but like the others, none can come close to the fear of the first movie!

The Week Of

Another Adam Sandler Netflix monstrosity. Best way to describe it, is it's a film that's an hour and fifty six minutes long that is roughly an hour and fifty six minutes too long.

Pitch Perfect 3 - 6/10 - I liked the other two movies, watched all three with the Mrs and they're pretty good "date night" films. This one absolutely jumped the shark and knew it was doing so in my opinion but I quite like the camaraderie between the main characters and who doesn't love a sing off?

JLA - 6/10 - This isn't as bad as everyone makes out. It's muddled and the villain is crap (most of them are, I haven't been particularly bothered by one since Ultron, though I caught a bit of Iron Man last night and forgot how good Obadiah was as an antagonist), but this film could have been saved if there had been an extra 2 origin movies before it aired. It couldn't seem to get the pacing right seemingly due to the need to provide quite a heavy amount of backstory for three of the main characters. Left me feeling like it was a missed opportunity but I was quite happy watching it.

I'm really interested in the direction Sandler's gone with his career. But I can't quite bring myself to sit through what sound like utterly meritless movies. Are they as bad as has been suggested?

I like some of his older stuff: Waterboy, Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer and thought 50 First Dates was alright....

He hasn't made that much of substance since all those, Netflix stuff was very weak but this latest one is just a disaster. Guess no need to make anything decent once you have a 7 figure contract from Netflix, bad news is that he has signed up to make 4 more exceptionally tired comedy films.

Dr Strange - 8/10
I really enjoyed it. I didn't go and see this in the cinema as I didn't think it would be my sort of thing but after Infinity War I liked the character and I thought this was a lot of fun. 2 hours flew by.

Spider-Man: Homecoming - 8/10
Re-watched this too. I only gave it 3/5 first time around but I'm bumping it to 8/10 on second viewing. Enjoyed the action, funny and has Peter on a nice 'learning curve' about what he can and can't achieve.

Avengers - Infinity War - was is as good as the sum of its parts and a successful culmination of ten years and nineteen films? I think it was, it had everything it needed and not much else, I have heard people complain it is long but it needs to be and never dragged. The special effects were astounding. Loved it! 5/5

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 7.5/10,

In short, the characters are lovable, the plot is simple but sometimes stupid, the soundtrack is awesome and the ending was excellent and consequential. However it fell flat in the villain department imo.
I think I liked it so much because its such a refreshing take on the super hero genre, more than just how good it is.

Deadpool 6/10
I was probably expecting too much because it's clearly a fan favourite. I thought the humour was okay but tiresome, the fights too cgi, but the middle third of the film was good (from when he gets his treatment onwards).
