What film did you watch last night?

The Boondock Saints 6/10 (being generous)

I've wanted to see this for a while purely down to an audio clip that's used at the beginning of a song I like, so I didn't really have any real expectations on watching it other than hoping it'd be as good as the music. Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Willem Dafoe and Billy Connolly partake in what amounts to be an almost comic book vigilante justice film, although nowhere near as good as that might sound. Tragically I'm actually going to watch the sequel at some point, although I have no faith that it's going to be any good.

Wuuuut, Boondock Saints is great, gem in the rough so to speak as not a lot of people have heard of it. Obviously avoid the sequel as it is beyond awful.

If you want awful, try The Marine 5 on Netflix, everything about it was awful :( 3/10

It just felt like amateur hour. Everyone looked like they were having lots of fun making it, Dafoe especially, but ultimately it was a bit too silly for me.

Exodus: God and Kings - 5/10. For what is one of the most epic stories of all time, Ridley Scott managed to make it surprisingly dull. Was banned in Egypt for 'factual inaccuracies' apparently, which I find amusing.

Proud Mary - 4/10 - An odd attempt at a mix of a female John Wick story with the usual "Assassin has 2nd thoughts and defends the target" trope but it's a poor attempt TBH with no warmth from the lead when she's trying to be "motherly". However the few action sequences are well done if a little "seen it all before" post-John Wick.

Death of Stalin - 7/10 -
A very black comedy done in a very unique style which works brilliantly, although there's obviously some "liberties" taken with historical fact. However the standout from a very good cast is easily Jason Isaacs as General Zhukov who steals every single scene he's in!

Wer (2013/14) - 6.5 to 7/10 as a movie, 9/10 as a monster/werewolf movie.

Ending didn't quite match up to what preceeded it but very good, original and interesting take on the Werewolf genre. Highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the monster genre as don't think i've ever heard anyone else mention it.

Jumanji, it's very very rare I don't like a film with the rock in it, but it was very disappointing, glad I missed it at cinema tbh, jokes fell flat and well I just can't say anything about it was good or okay I felt very meh at the end.

Been trying to fill in some gaps before seeing Infinity War so..

Dr Strange - Pretty good, enjoyed it despite not generally liking Cumberbatch. Would've maybe liked some more material between this and the random 5 min pop up in Ragnarok where there is a massive jump in his skills.

Black Panther - Mediocre. I genuinely can't remember a part I was blown away by.

Its said that the Dormamu bargaining scene could have been repeated thousands of times hence him becoming stronger after a lot of practice.

High-Rise - an absurd dark comedy from Ben Wheatley about a cutting edge High-rise community in the mid seventies where tensions rise between the rich upper floors and the poorer lower floors. Things escalate pretty quickly but no one seems to want to leave the building. As said, completely absurd but I loved it! 4/5

Watched Black Panther in advance of going to see Infinity War tomorrow night and was really looking forward to it after all the hype...... what a let down!

Poor storyline, barely average action scenes and Martin Freeman as a Yank - have we run out of American actors??

And don't get me started on the "bad guy" - as far as I could tell he was after vengeance for his dad being murdered (understandable) wanted to use the Wakandan weapons to change the balance of power in the world (some would say commendable) and when he won the right to be king fair and square he was then the victim of what can only be described as a military coup! Just about the only "evil" thing about him was the fact his name was Killmonger!

All on all this rates as the worst Marvel film to date IMO!

Fingers crossed that Infinity War restores my faith in the Marvel name!

Now I agree, wasn't a fan.

But have you missed half of the Marvel movies? Martin has been acting as a Yank for a while now....

And in Fargo too.

Yes, and unless I'm mistaken, isn't it literally the only other Marvel film he's been in?

To clarify, I don't mind Martin Freeman, I just find it strange when they get British actors to play American roles! (Even Cumberbatch as Dr Strange took some getting used to, although he fits the role nicely now!)

Either way the film was a huge disappointment in my opinion, the story was terrible!

IT - 5/10

Well, not sure about this. I really liked it first time around at the cinema with a group of friends. Second time at home at it just didn't click. Girlfriend hadn't seen it before and was not enjoying it at all. Turned it off halfway through!

What do you mean by this? Are you saying British actors shouldn't act in American films and vice versa?

Not that they shouldn't act in American films, just that it seems odd to cast a British actor in an American part forcing them to put on what is usually a pretty poor accent - again I want to stress that I know it happens and there is nothing wrong with it - I just find it odd!

I'm half tempted to go back and edit my post because everyone seems hell-bent on focusing on what was a throwaway line in a post designed to express my disappointment in the film as a whole - NOT JUST BECAUSE MARTIN FREEMAN HAPPENED TO BE PLAYING AN AMERICAN! :D

Perhaps someone telling you a movie is crap whilst you are trying to watch it had some bearing on it?

To be fair you added two question marks to your "throwaway line" :p. Fair enough, I haven't seen the film yet so can't comment, but MF has been great in everything else I have seen.
