What film did you watch last night?

Extraction 7.5/10
Well, that was a surprise. Quite the jolt in the arm for action films, I thought. Insane stunts and camerawork with long takes where it was difficult to spot the cuts and CGI (most of the time). Has to lose points for a bodycount that would make Rambo blush. It has the same problem I have with Jack Ryan in there's a scene where characters point out the bad guys have children too and get all mournful then 2 minutes later the lead is mowing down over a hundred dudes. Very impressed by this director though.

I watched this one (again)...

The Town - 7/10

Ben Afflec as a career bank robber. Reasonable movie, annoying Boston accents, decent enough action and story but for me a slightly unfulfilling ending...

Disturbia (2007)

I remember this being heavily promoted at the time of release. It’s starts off quite well and Shia LaBeouf is initially quite likeable but then the whole film becomes extremely predictable to the point of being redundant, as a horror / thriller.

The notable thing about this film, I think, is that whilst the film is about (in part) creepy behaviour of spying on neighbours, the film itself is a bit creepy / tasteless in relishing in that behaviour. There is quite an astonishing amount of time spent oggling the ‘teen neighbour’ via binoculars for entertainment and in the current era it feels very dated / objectifying of women. It’s then unbelievable that LaBeouf‘s monologue of his activities wins the girl over!!

The other point to note.... is that the love interest is smoking hot!!! Hmmmghnnnnn!! Oh sweet jeez *brain explodes*

So much for being all high and mighty :p

5/10 for being watchable, 10/10 if you want to be a perve.

Watch Rear Window instead!

Bad Boys 3 - 6.5/10

Was going along nicely, lots of banter, a few laughs and then the "he is your son" - GTFO.

Harley Quinn - 30mins left, took a break as it was late. A lot of comments about it being all over the place, flashbacks etc - but i had no issue with that, quite funny tbh. Enjoying it so far, not a masterpiece - Ewan McGregor is dog toffee as the bad guy and the 'strong females and men are bad' is a bit thickly laid on - but a decent romp through Gotham.

Wonder if the Bat or Mr J turn up in the finale?! - probably not, because, urgh, men!

Dark Shadows. Another Jonny Depp vehicle by Tim Burton as he plays a cursed vampire trapped for 200 years before escaping to save the fortunes of his modern day family. Full of Burton's signature style (including Helena Bonham Carter), it's cheesy and silly with a little bit of horror, but not something you'll want to watch twice. Michelle Pfieffer, Jackie Earle Haley and Chloe Moritz do a few minutes of good background in supporting roles. The most unbelievable thing is that someone would chose the sweet and saccharine Bella Heathcote over crazy, sexy blonde Eva Green.

The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017) - 4/10

I’m all for irrelevance, but this weird mix of themes and ideas which includes traditional ninjas, giant flying robots, a real cat, pop tunes and family strife don’t tie together at all.

There are a few good jokes and the LEGO graphics are always colourful, but the action scenes were dull, there were too many characters with little development and the heavy focus on the emotional and moral story made it boring to watch.

Nowhere near as good as the other LEGO movies – it should have been shorter, punchier and with more memorable characters and fast build scenes.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064115/

I saw a documentary on YT about the making of the film and since I haven't seen it for quite a long time, my interest was sufficiently fueled to watch this classic once again. If you haven't watched it, though I expect just about everyone has, I do urge you to give it a try - even if, like me, you're not much of a fan of most western period type films. Great film.

Ant-Man & Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Great fun films that look good in Dolby Vision. I am a fan of Paul Rudd but Michael Peña steals the show.
