What film did you watch last night?

That's a shame, been a while since a horror made me squirm via body horror. Honeymoon had a rather uncomfortable scene, last one I remember that left me feeling unnerved.

Perhaps check out part of a review online?

For me, it was a fair to decent movie, but not one I'd want to watch again, whereas, for example, the 1978 Invasion of the Bodysnatchers is, in my biased view, a very good film that I can view over and over.

I don't often give films/games marks out of ten these days, but if I were to for The Beach House, I'd say around a 5-6/10.

Have you watched any of the French extremity films like Martyrs or Irreversible?

Kuru.

The J-horror quality spectrum has three bands:

* terrible
* mediocre
* superb

Kuru sits firmly in 'terrible.' At 135 minutes, it is 65 minutes too long. The plot is convoluted, poorly explained, and difficult to follow. The horror elements are not even remotely alarming. Characterisation is lazy and weak. Everything else is just plain bad, although I give it some credit for what must be the most elaborate exorcism scene in cinematic history.

I rate Kuru at 9.99 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a dismal 3/10 on IMDB.

Oh yes, although that falls more into torture porn as opposed to body horror. I've mentioned multiple times over the years in this thread that Martyrs maybe one of my favourite ever horror movies, it's just so hopeless which for me is true horror.

That's why I was asking, I had read BD's review on it and they were banging on about the body horror element which always grabs my attention. Your the first person here or in my RL group of friends who'd seen it. We established a few weeks back we have similar horror tastes and was curious to your view. :)

Noises Off...(1992)

"A travelling theatre group find so much action going on behind-the-scenes, they almost ruin the performances."

An under-rated gem.

Watched Jurassic Park at the cinema today, it's mostly aged well but some of the animal animatronics are now looking very jerky and dated. The t-rex attack scene is still tense and superb though.

Also a massive plot hole was spotted in the t-rex attack, it might be well known but hadn't noticed it on previous viewings. On first journey around the paddock is ground level but suddenly when they return and the cars are attacked, there is a huge cliff.

Still a damn good movie though - 8/10

Looking for my next enjoyable movie experience but not sure what to watch, so any suggestions are welcome.

Most genres appeal, especially sci-fi, war, horror, mystery, drama, thriller... (I think that's most of 'em :D).

I also rewatched Martyrs last night - as I saw it suggested a few posts back. Pretty good and worth watching. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1663655/

Please please please tell me you watched the French version of Martyrs as you've linked the US remake.

@HungryHippos - I don't think so, I'll check it out, ta. :)

@SixTwoSix - hangs head in shame, no, I haven't...but it's one to look up soon. Cheers.

Shame...shame...shame :D

Martyrs French version in one of my favourite horror movie of all time, the US remake while competent wouldn't be in a top 250 list.

I Saw The Devil is something special, just don't watch if you feel a bit down, it's unrelenting.

I won't ruin it regarding what the film is about but it was good, 8/10.

Dan.

Bad Neighbours would probably be OK if Seth Rogen wasn't in it, but he's such a colossally unfunny 'actor' he ruins pretty much anything he's in. He's better as a director and should stay off screen and do that instead.
