What film did you watch last night?

Tenet, some friends had seen it at the cinema and came out saying it was really good.

I dunno what they watched or if it was the sound in the cinema that overwhelmed them into submission or something.

I spent the first 15 minutes just trying to hear what was being said, once my brain had tuned in to the sound that stopped being a problem and I knew to try and take it all in, but alas it was still too confusing. The Mrs gave up and went to bed and I carried on, it becomes clear at the end but it wasn't one of those amazing twists it was kind of just aahh right.

It's like he forgot movies are supposed to entertain us, everything else was there but I just didn't enjoy it.

5/10

Looks like some of you guys agree with that reading back.

Waiting For The Barabarians - 7/10 Mark Rylance and Jonny Depp are very good but it's mostly Ryllance.Foreiegn legion styled story about life on the edges of an empre when things go wrong. It doesn't end how you might expect this or any other film to end but nonetheless it's very nicely made and acted. Lot's of quiet periods as far from the exposition filled nature of many modern films as you could imagine. I doubt it will have much re-watchability but i'm glad I've seen it I enjoyed it throughout.

As above:

Penninsula: 5/10. CGI was terrible and Fast and Furious cars (0 - 60 in a split second and a million gears). Interesting story, but nowhere near as good as it could have been.

#Alive - 6/10. Worth a watch, but with a few silly bits.

Tenet: 7/10 - I think i enjoyed it and will need to rewatch (could go to 5/10 or 9/10, i'm not sure which!). Some great action sequences, but why does Nolan always make the dialogue so low in the mix. Also, Brannagh's bad guy was really hammy (Accent was copied from Constantine the frog from Muppets 2!)

Just finished watching all the main vacation movies after watching the first on nextflix

National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) was great National

Lampoon's European Vacation was great almost as good as the first I enjoyed it even better it had cameos of my from 2 of my favourite British actors robbie coltrane and Eric Idle

Vegas Vacation was worth a watch not as good as the first two.

Vacation (2015) I had high hopes for it but was a load of ****, the people who made this must be idiots or not have read the script. just save time and watch the trailers they are the only good parts

but my favourite is

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation IMO its the best on of the lot and a great xmas movies, I only started watching the rest after watching this a number of times, not watched it yet this year.

Now to complete the collection you just need to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure starring the utterly bat**** crazy in real life Randy Quaid.

Here's one of Randy's latest rants just to show he wasn't acting much when he portrayed Crazy Cousin Eddie.

Nil By Mouth. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119792/

I think I saw this mentioned on here a page or three back, so seeing as I like Ray Winstone I thought I'd check it out.

I may have seen it before but if I did it was a long time ago, so I couldn't remember much if anything.

Very raw and blunt, as you would expect. Great performances by all.

If you haven't seen it, this is another of his that's well worth watching:

The Karate Kid (original '84 version)

After watching the first season of Cobra Kai (which, btw, is excellent), my wife and I decided we needed a refresher on The Karate Kid so we could pick up all the references in Cobra Kai. I've seen it before, of course, but not in a long time. It's a very 80s movie, and watching it again reminds me how much it influenced other films since. It's cheesy, easy watching with a lovely sense of nostalgia about it, and whilst I'd remembered the jist of the film there was enough I'd forgotten to make it interesting again.

A classic 7/10.

Mank - 6.5/10

It was alright. Looked great but the story wasn’t much to write home about. Probably David Fincher’s ‘worst’ film. Gary Oldman is always watchable as is Lilly Collins! :)
