What film did you watch last night?

Tenet, some friends had seen it at the cinema and came out saying it was really good.

I dunno what they watched or if it was the sound in the cinema that overwhelmed them into submission or something.

I spent the first 15 minutes just trying to hear what was being said, once my brain had tuned in to the sound that stopped being a problem and I knew to try and take it all in, but alas it was still too confusing. The Mrs gave up and went to bed and I carried on, it becomes clear at the end but it wasn't one of those amazing twists it was kind of just aahh right.

It's like he forgot movies are supposed to entertain us, everything else was there but I just didn't enjoy it.

5/10

Looks like some of you guys agree with that reading back.

Watched this last. Pretty much agree with your findings.

Found myself constantly juggling with the volume as I was trying to hear what was going on, with the very loud sound mix then blasting out music and explosions.

Wasnt a fan of the leads delivery either, found him very dry and unengaging.

Its a shame as the set pieces and film making were amazing as with most of Nolans stuff. Its just I have to watch a film 4 times or start searching in YouTube for films explaining it then it hasnt really hit the mark for me.

Ill give it 5-10, should/could have been a 8 or 9.

Fatman - 8/10

An enjoyable film with some pitch-perfect casting IMO in Mel Gibson and Walton Goggins. It wanders a bit in overall tone - sometimes effectively, sometimes not so much - but the central conceit (that Santa and his workshop are very real and much like Batman he's managed to create his own villains in Billy and the hitman Jonathan Miller played by Goggins) absolutely works.

Nil By Mouth. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119792/

I think I saw this mentioned on here a page or three back, so seeing as I like Ray Winstone I thought I'd check it out.

I may have seen it before but if I did it was a long time ago, so I couldn't remember much if anything.

Very raw and blunt, as you would expect. Great performances by all.

If you haven't seen it, this is another of his that's well worth watching:

Brilliant film. Directed by Gary Oldman as well I believe?

Tenet,

Currently watching for the second time, now I don't consider myself stupid(who does) but I found it so hard to grasp first time and would have scored it 5/10 just for pure confusion, however, I haven't been able to stop thinking about so it did something right, and my midway through the second watch I'm finding it hugely enjoyable, it also looks fantastic, second viewing score to come later.

Blade Runner (The Final Cut) in 4K/HDR.

One of my favourite films regardless of version and it never fails to disappoint, it looked gorgeous and was a joy to sit through. A little overly grainy at times but that's easily forgiven on my end.

Easily a 10/10.

a relatively new one called 'Deadlocked' it's a zombie flick which i don't usually bother with, but for a change i actually enjoyed it.

8/10 i would give it (caveat: i could never be a film critic because i tend to over award/positively review anything which i watch)

The Sword in the Stone (Disney Animated Classic)

Great film this. Just wonderful really. A story mostly about nothing in particular with wholesome humour and charming dialogue. I laughed out loud so many times... particularly when Merlin gets his foot caught in the chain... I don't know why but that just really gets to me every time I see it. Merlin getting water out of the well is like me when I attempt anything :o :p

Being a bit more critical, the title of the film is sort of misleading - there is about 10 minutes in total of matters actually concerning the "Sword in the Stone" that bookends the film. In that sense, people might say that the film mostly doesn't really go anywhere. Which is true. But otherwise it's just too much fun :D

10/10

Steve Jobs

Always really liked this movie. It's treads the line between truth and fiction very carefully and even when it trips a little into the latter it's still a great story about one of the great characters of our time. Screenplay is excellent too with the typical snappy dialogue from Sorkin.

Great movie.

Possessor

Eh, was expecting more, basically felt like one of the more average episodes of Black Mirror, just with some extra blood/gore/nudity.
Don't think Brandon did a particularly great job following in daddy's footsteps.

5/10

I saw that recently after all the hype for it, thought it was prett poor and very by the numbers, aside from the sex there was nothing memorable at all.
3/10

I watched Tenet on Saturday....wow that was something, I haven't still processed it but I really enjoyed it. 8/10. I've listened to the OST twice now, the music is incredible and I Cannot wait to watch it again. for the most part I didn't have a problem with the audio in the film either, there was only 2 or 3 scenes where I had to turn it up the talking.

I watched for the 2nd time on Saturday and dialogue was definitely clearer than the cinema, it helps there wasn't booming bass as my home sound isn't so loud :)

I enjoyed it about the same 2nd time, however this time I understand much more why it's so divisive. I also think it's not as complex as it initially appears on the first viewing.

Regardless of whether folks liked/disliked it, I feel we need filmmakers like Nolan to keep pushing new ideas in sci-fi or we'll just have a sea of cookie cutter superhero movies and dire Star Wars sequels like Last Jedi/Rise of Skywalker.

Pans Labyrith.
Gave up on this after 10 minutes when it first came out.
Was perusing prime and it was either this or Teenage Ninja Turtles , glad i picked this its got to be one of the best films i have watched in a while.
9/10.

Robin Hood (Disney Animated Classic)

Bit of a mixed bag this one. I remember it quite fondly as a child but it hasn’t held up particularly well. The animation feels very crude and is noticeably sketchy compared to the Sword in the Stone - not really a issue in and of itself, but a lot of animations such of the marching troops are reused over and over (and at times it was obvious that some scenes were pinched directly from other Disney films). Otherwise, the film feels very derivative and paper thin with emotion. The characters are plentiful but rarely charming.

With two massive exceptions that is. King John and Sir Hiss are hilarious. Definitely the highlight of the film.

The other notable thing is how handsome / pretty Robin and Marian are - perhaps more so than any other Disney characters? It’s kind of a weird observation to make, but a google suggests that it’s actually not an uncommon thing for people to subsequently notice. I bet @FoxEye was all over this as a kid, pre-Krystal :p

6.5/10

The 2nd on Netflix. Can I give a -10 out of 10 score?

It's one of those car wreck films you have to morbidly watch to see just how bad it can get throughout..............don't waste your time.........

LOL I watched probably not even 5 minutes of it before quitting - it might have been excusable as a student project just about - -10 is generous.

I swapped over to watching Ava instead which was OK - not great not terrible - too many things where they were lazy and thought the audience wouldn't notice like inconsistent bullet holes in windows, etc. that appear and disappear between scenes and so on.
