What film did you watch last night?

Quiet Place 2 - 7.5/10

Went to the cinema to watch this night. Had seen the first a few weeks ago and thought might as well see the sequel. The second I think is a better movie, flows better where as the first didn't have a good pace. Action sequences are good. Wish they'd had a bit more of Cillan Muphy though, missed a trick there. Felt like Stranger Things but with less comedy. Would watch again.

Ghostbusters 2016

It was horrendous in the cinema back then and just as bad, if not worse on tele. No idea what possessed me to watch (probably a ghost)

1/10

Also from the same writer that I can recommend is.

Hell or High Water and Sicario.

And if you enjoy those try.

Galveston (2018)

Thanks had added these on my watch list did Sicario 1 and 2 over the last couple of weekends (preferred S1 over S2) and Galveston was also very good

Have Hell or High Water queued up for tonight or possibly (unrelated ) The Town

Have seen both before but definite due a re-visit

Deep Rising - which to my delight is on Now TV.

I ****ING LOVE THIS FILM.

This must have been on Sky Moviemax circa-2000 and I remember enjoying it as a young teen. It’s just as good as I remember.

In the genre of goofy monster/action flicks, this must be one of the best. Wide ensemble cast, check. Light humour, check. Epic cheese, check. Decent amount of gore, check.

It’s just the bestest. I was shouting “yes!” at the TV by the end. Ridiculous film :D

10/10 for my enjoyment.

I love "Deep Rising" but I always thought that poster was terrible. Famke looks bored and wft happened to Treat's neck?

I think it's a recent 'for streaming services' poster - it doesn't have any of the usual 'list of credits' from a theatrical poster.

Edit: here's the original, I think:

Army Of The Dead (2021) - 6 / 10

Mediocre at best with a slow first half and a mixed second half.

The plot is functional and has just enough variety in its content to make it interesting.

There’s violence, gore, action, comedy, a varied and likeable cast, some Vegas references and a different take on the zombie threat, but there should have been more focus on one aspect (or just more of everything) to make it stand out.

There’s a little bit of horror and tension and it has some style to it but again, this is mostly lacking.

The characters are ultimately forgettable and the hinted at sub plots don’t go anywhere.

Spiral - From The Book Of Saw - 6.5/10

Not sure if i've just watched too much horror or if it was blindingly obvious but i'd figured out both both killer and motive in about 25 minutes of watching this. Didn't detract from the enjoyment though, you don't watch these films for the story, it's just over the top torture porn silliness.

Not really creative enough as the main saw movies for the traps, although the opener absolutely had me whincing and doing the mental gymnastics of 'could i survive this at that cost?'

Chris Rock is hard to watch in a serious role, he doesn't really have enough presence to pull it off, I did like the New Jack City throwback though.

Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)

Well I've seen all three versions of this film now and non of them are that good. All this version does over the other is tell a marginally more coherent story.

Even so. It's still more style over substance and as far as I'm concerned it's a very marmite style anyway.

You've also got the fact that this version now teases films and characters that we'll never see. But that's probably a good thing.

4/10
