What film did you watch last night?

We watched RIPD. Who ever funded this film must have taken a serious bath. The CGI is mostly awful but even so, this film can't have been cheap to make.

Sort of like a Men in Black clone.

2/10 it made me chuckle a couple of times I guess.

Caveat 6.7/10
Really low budget Irish horror mystery film. Really creepy with a foreboding atmosphere and some good ideas. One of the better films of its type I have seen lately. Far better than the bang average conjuring 3.

Deep Rising as mentioned further up. Can't believe I missed this from 1998! good fun and CGI effects still quite good. Although they have unlimited ammo in their guns lol

Nobody - 8/10

Predictable and at times very Funny/OUCH/Flinch violent action film that was a good length and didn't really waste anytime, just telling a crazy little story.

The Terminator - Good film, but it' showing its age. Watched it with my eldest daughter, so she's prepared for T2 next week. 7/10

*Removed reference to film not yet available in the UK*

Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)

The plot and characters are typical RE with plenty of over the top devastation, zombies and unstoppable bioweapons.

The animation is good, although the characters are a bit wooden and doll-like and the action scenes are exciting, although I was expecting more of them rather than the heavier focus on RE lore and politics.

There’s hardly any horror and it was weird hearing it all in Japanese when both the characters and setting is American, but the music is good and I liked the use of first person shots during some of the scenes.

A Quiet Place ... not the new part 2, the first one (but I only knew about it because I saw people talking about the new one)... it was alright, I like that guy (Jim from the American Office) and so enjoyed it maybe just for that... it wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away or anything.

I think I tried watching the first film (A Quiet Place) but for some reason I couldn't get into it.
I'll have to check it out again.

If you weren't into it the first time then you might not like it on a repeat attempt, unless you're just trying to knock it out to then watch the sequel (though I'm guessing that'll be much of the same)... I thought how they used sound in it was pretty interesting, John Krasinski (looked up his name this time) carried it for me as I said... the kids were pretty annoying so maybe that's what did it in for you, but that's basically the case for every movie, haha.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021) - 2/10

A mess of a movie which relies too heavily on the type-cast A-Listers to make it entertaining.

It’s basically a compilation of overly loud, gory and explosive action scenes interspersed with characters shouting and swearing at each other in the name of plot progression and comedy.

The plot and humour is dumb, although it is funny at times, but the slapstick style and poor casting choices make this a bad film.

So just daft and full of sweary action like the first movie then? Great to know. Think I'm going to like it.

It's getting beyond a joke now...There has been a lack of decent movies for a few years now, and I'm sick of superhero stuff...boak
Gone are the days of movies such as Fight Club, Seven, The green mile etc...yi know good movies with a story to tell.

Palm Springs - 7/10

Reasonable movie with a few chuckles.

Not sure I buy their way out. I understand it might break them out of the loop, but I'm sure they'd then be dead...

Awake - Quite funny in a bad way
Is this actually based in the book "Nod" by Adrian Barnes? Because it sounds like exactly the same story but I had a quick look and couldn't see a credit or anything. I really liked the book. I feel like it could have been better but I still enjoyed it a lot. Still think about it now actually.

Regarding A Quiet Place I think it really loses its impact outside of a cinema. In a dark theatre, not dating to breathe, let alone crunch popcorn, well it was certainly a new and brilliant experience.
