What film did you watch last night?

Body snatching and fighting the wind - how did Patty Jenkins go from a decent first entry to this?

Because in the first film, she was a feminist figurehead, and a lot of the actual work was overseen by members of Christopher Nolan's team. This actually also happens quite a lot in the likes of the Marvel films, which are very much made on a conveyor belt. There was even a female director-of-colour announced on one of the films who left because she found out she would not be doing much at all, and others would be directing action scenes (not that she had any experience there) while the company could virtue signal her employment.

With the second WW film, Patty Jenkins was allowed to do her own directing and writing (got to get those writers credits and the residuals that go along with it), and it turned into the disaster it is. Take a look at her directing credits. Apart from her one hit with "Monster", does her history exhibit the abilities to take on one of the big DC characters? She fronted the first one, but when given full reign of the second, she's been shown as simply not up to the job, but they got their female empowerment message in.

Watched Baby Driver last night. Been watching a lot of Edgar Wright's movies recently, just an excellent director and the visual comedy that his movies consist of is amazing

"Nobody". What a superb film. Loads of action but some genuinely laugh out loud moments too. One of the best films I watched in a long time.

The dead don't die 8/10

Slow meandering, deadpan, awkward, strange and very meta.

I can see why a lot of people didn't get it or like it but personally I really enjoyed everything about it. The slow awkward pacing and scenes, the deadpan delivery, the great style of the sets and shots. The only thing I didn't like was the over use of the fourth wall breaking towards the end, should have stuck with the smaller random unacknowledged bits.

Just watched it - I can see why it wasn't well received, no popcorn movie, not something you'd really enjoy at the cinema and not something you'd watch for its intellectual depth either despite some wry intellectual commentary, etc. but at the same time the deadpan shambling self-awareness is kind of fascinating to watch until near the end - likewise preferred it when the fourth wall breaking was obscure.

I Am Wrath. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3212232/

It seems like quite a few of Travolta's movies don't get all that high scores - or the ones I've checked out anyway.

However, despite the far-fetched nature of action flicks like this, I thought it was alright. Plenty of holes in it but all in all, a decent enough way to spend a couple of hours.

The Matrix Reloaded - 8/10. Lost points due to the sh1tty, overlong Xion rave, wtf?

But the freeway scene? Wow! And Persephone - nom nom nom.

Revolutions up next
