What film did you watch last night?

@Junglist got to disagree with you on TLJ score, barely a 4/10 for me, lowlights being the forced Poe Dameron humour at the start with Hux, the dumb-as-a-bag-of-hammers story device of worlds slowest chase in space because 'hyperspace fuel', Leia doing a mary poppins through space when she's barely shown any force aptitude prior and the wasted casino planet sub-plot.

Honestly, the new order has no fuel issues, hyperspace jump in front of the rebels, job jobbed.

The scene with the hyperspace jump that takes out the new order ship was a beautiful looking piece of the movie - wasted empty sacrifice though with no weight to it.

I think Poe was the only thing I liked about the film really! I do have to confess I do really like Oscar Isaac so he probably bumped the score up by himself. Though I did chuckle at "That's amazing. Everything you said was incorrect" and when she thought she could feel the force.

I wont be in a hurry to watch it again. Kylo Ren is such a little stroppy whining ******** as well. Even the way he fights is like a kid throwing their toys out the pram and I really dislike when he and Rey talk through that connected mind thing.

The more I think about it, the more I think you're right.

I just feel that Rian Johnson went in with the aim of not just subverting expectation but also taking a dump from a great height on any logical, well thought out story telling. I deep down feel he has a dislike of star wars and the fandom and did all he could to **** off everyone.

Oscar Isaac is a cracking actor, his humour just didn't suit the overall tone of the movie, it's not GOTG.

I'm amazed that Abrams managed to salvage as much as he did for the final movie considering what he was left with at the end of TLJ, don't get me wrong, ROS is in no way great but he deserves some small credit that is wasn't as bad as this movie.

The batman 2022 8.99999/10

The crow, I mean emo batman is back....
Moody, gothic, wet and unsmiling.
Really good. Overly long!
Very punchy.
The 3rd/4th act just keeps going and going and becomes a very different feel to the rest of the film.... Reshoots? Added on later? You decide!

Spotlight.

Expected more from this after seeing Dark Waters not long ago. Ruffalo was a bit 'hulk-like' but wasn't he filming Age of Ultron about the same time? the film just felt a bit flat, even though the main performances were good. 6/10

Dog (2022) - 8/10

A heartfelt and poignant drama about a man and a dog dealing with physical and psychological trauma after serving in the US Army, such as PTSD, loss and moving on.

It’s not a comedy, but the road trip has plenty of humorous events to keep you entertained as well as the interesting emotional drama.

Great acting from both the leads as they break down, heal and build themselves up again, and some beautiful scenery as well.

The Batman - 8/10

Cracking film. So well directed and edited. Dark gritty and a proper detective mystery for the Bat. The 3 hours flew, didn't feel like that long due to how well put together it was.

Boiling Point, shot in a single screen, Stephen Graham is on point as are the other cast. It brought back the days i worked in restaurants and reminded me why it sucks, the front of house trying to appease the worst customers with the kitchen fighting to keep their dignity, right down to the lazy kitchen porter getting away with doing f all for the most part. I've seen it all and this film gets it to a t. I dont remember having that much time to take calls though!

The tension builds throughout the film till the films title comes to fruition.

I watched this last night and enjoyed it. Made me thankful that I've never worked in a restaurant.

I also watched another single-take film on Netflix, called Nightride, about a bloke trying to wrap up a drug deal. Worth a watch.

"The Protege" on Amazon Prime. Maggie Q, Samuel L J and Michael Keaton put in good performances. In particular the interactions between Maggie and Michael are brilliant. Some interesting character dynamics.

A Day To Die - 2/10

The worst movie I can remember seeing in some time. Just so bad. If you imagine, in Friends they had a episode where Joey was an action movie star, the bits they would show you of the movie would be like this movie actually was...

Boiling Point - 6/10.

Can't say I cared that much about any of the characters but it was well performed and an impressive single take. Well done to the camera operator who was on the move for 98mins whilst the main actors probably had a nice sit down when not in the scene :p The story was decent, it didnt go exactly where I thought it might, so I'm glad I watched. The girlfriend fell asleep, but that would be her review of 99% of movies we watch :p

Lazy copy paste from batman thread...

Like a lot of people I suspect, i'm suffering a bit of Batman fatigue - however saw this on saturday and apart from a few small nitpicks, thought it was fantastic.

Pattinson was a superb Batman, an ok Bruce Wayne but luckily this is a Batman movie with plenty of actual Batman in it. All supporting roles were performed extremely well - everyone felt totally invested in the movie. Farrell and Dano both shined in their roles.

Good to see the world greatest detective doing some detective work as well, I truly hope we get more from this director and Pattinson.

8.5/10 for me and borderline as good as TDK which i'd score about the same.

Not last night, but over 3 nights last week:

The Lord of The Rings - all 3 extended versions.

First re-watch for at least 10 years, but they still hold up really well. I can remember going to see them every December between 2001-03. I feel old..:(

I think "Fellowship" is my favourite. Maybe.
