What film did you watch last night?

Apparently, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss didn't get along at all well, which may account for such powerful tension at times on screen?
Ha! I was literally reading about that the other day. Dreyfuss was apparently very cocky for a young actor, and Shaw was a belligerent drunk. I think the former didn't get along with Bill Murray either when they made What About Bob together.

Blazing Saddles 7.5/10

Watched it again last night for the first time in a few years (and first time in a single sitting), and really enjoyed it, it made me laugh and to be honest it holds up really well.

"You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons."

The Godfather 9/10

Cinema screening of this classic for its 50th Anniversary. Fantastic film in so many ways. Numb ass from sitting so long though.

Bet that was brilliant! They did a live orchestra version in Bristol a few years back and I'm gutted I missed it. The book is well worth a read too, bit short though.

Empire Strikes Back - 8/10. The stand out film of all of them so far. You can tell they got an increased budget compared to A New Hope and because it was less world building going on the story felt much more interesting.

Return of the Jedi - 7/10. Again, bigger and better than a new hope obviously with more budget again but I preferred Empire Strikes Back, really enjoyed it though.

Right. Boba Fett. Why is this guy loved so much that he got his own series, was it just because of his cool armour? He's barely in ESB and is just interested in getting his dosh for Solo. It's not like he is pivotal to the franchise at all really and in RoTJ he goes out like a little punk and falls into the Sarlacc. I was expecting more from him.

On to the new ones now. I watched them a few years back so I'm not as keen to watch them again so soon but I may as well do it

It was great. Hadn't seen it in years even though I still have the Godfather trilogy on DVD. But seeing on big screen was good if a little butt numbing due to the film length.

I think Part 2 is getting re-released next week.

Boba Fett, it was the cool armour; the impact from the Kenner (toy) figure was huge. One of the most expensive and sort after toys.

I am a massive fan of Star Wars, yet all the spin offs, simply no interest as they are no where as good as the originals. If It were to make one exception, Rogue One.

yeah Rogue One was probably my favourite film of them all but Empire Strikes Back is probably the best one out of the 3 trilogies, in my opinion at least

Boiling Point, shot in a single screen, Stephen Graham is on point as are the other cast. It brought back the days i worked in restaurants and reminded me why it sucks, the front of house trying to appease the worst customers with the kitchen fighting to keep their dignity, right down to the lazy kitchen porter getting away with doing f all for the most part. I've seen it all and this film gets it to a t. I dont remember having that much time to take calls though!

The tension builds throughout the film till the films title comes to fruition.

Studio 666 7/10

A great laugh and good entertainment. If you love cheesy 80s style gory horror and the Foo Fighters this is a must see. A hilarious cameo quite early on too that had me laughing out loud.

Not that it matters - a good film is a good film but is this a true single take or cleverly edited to make it seem like it is?

I saw the trailer a few weeks back and hadn't even clocked it was using the single take gimmick, just looked like an interesting film.

Jaws. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073195/

I can't recall the last time I saw this but I was surprised just how well it holds up even today.

Roy Scheider sure was a good actor.

Amazing what you were allowed to watch as a kid back then. My dad took me and my brother to see this when I was 8. Gave me nightmares for ages and i wouldnt go into the sea for a few years.

Apparently so,
The single take works really well in this film as it allows the tension to build throughout, sure it probably wasnt needed but i think it added to the film rather than just being a bit of a gimmick ala 1917.

I was unimpressed with 1917, a great technical feat but never felt all that much threat and way too many moments of convenience and sillyness.

Regarding Jaws. I watched it as a kid at home (I wasn't even close to being born when it came out) and ended up having nightmares. In the dream I was being a bit of a dick and throwing stones at some sharks in the sea from the land. They grew legs and chased me up the beach :D

The Force Awakens: 6/10 - Didn't really enjoy it too much. It was really nice watching something with modern visuals after the originals but the story was a bit rubbish. Basically a weaker 'new hope'. I got rather annoyed in the scene (more so than when I first saw it) where Rey who had only heard about the force a day or so ago, decided to use Jedi Mind Control on a storm trooper and was successful on her second attempt. With no training whatsoever. She also was able to use the Jedi pull with much success too. I also hated how both Rey and Finn were able to put up a bit of a fight with Kylo whilst neither have ever used a lightsabre before. This is someone who is supposed to be powerful yet he had to put in an effort to even fight the pair of them. Dooku, Maul and Vader would've all sliced them up with ease. Probably just crushed their throats.

The Last Jedi: 6.5/10. A bit better than the previous film and several moments did get a bit of a laugh out of me but overall, not a patch on the E1-6 and the two 'stand alone' films. Enjoyed the space fights, didn't enjoy Leila being able to survive and fly around in space.
