What film did you watch last night?

i really dont get the love for this movie?
Probably the best cinematography of any film of that decade. Roger Deakins is an absolute maestro. Music and sound combo of the movie added to the tension. Johann Johannsson's score is another exciting driving force upon which the film is carried. It was powerful. Incredible action-thriller. It was extremely dark. Not color wise, but the subject matter. Villeneuve really knows how to take the most vile subjects and turn them into intense and dark cinema. The acting was top notch especially Del Toro. He is comfortable with this sort of material and it really shows. I have always been a fan of Brolin after no country for old men. His character was so relaxed and mean with those slip ons quite opposite to del toro's who you slowly get to know as the movie unfolds. Del toro's character was emotionless and relentless. It is his best performance to date.

I don't get the love for Sicario either. I watched it when it came out and was completely nonplussed. Didn't even bother with the second one. That said, they were both on TV a while ago and I recorded them to give them another go .... when I can build up the enthusiasm.

Separately, I tried watching The Sisters Brothers the other day (was on BBC 2). I had fairly high expectations given the cast, but after 40 minutes of being completely bored, I switched it off.

The Darjeeling Limited, if The French Dispatch is full fat Wes Anderson, then this is diet WA, i not sure on this one, it felt like something was missing, it could have done with more run time/story perhaps and a cast change from Owen Wilson as he distracts from the style of the film yet also somewhat of a lynch pin due to how his character drives the story forward and shows the somewhat disjointed relationships brought on through simply being siblings.

Space Sweepers (2021) - 7/10

A fun and thrilling adventure on an intergalactic scale which manages to be humorous and heartfelt amongst all the action and special effects.

The story is relatively straightforward, but on a grand scale with a fantastic intergalactic setting complemented by the impressive special effects and CGI.

The quirky crew of kick-ass misfits have good chemistry and the egotistical villain allows for a simple but effective good vs evil dynamic.

The mix of languages is a bit odd, but adds to the realism in its own way, and the action’s a bit ropey at times. The pacing could have been better and it gets ridiculous at the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) - 6/10

An emotionally charged murder mystery highlighting the dangers of paranoia and the toxicity that can exist between a long standing group of friends.

It’s very well written with some humorous lines and very well acted with believable dynamics between the characters, but the style and culture wasn’t really to my taste.

The escalation is at a good pace and the highly strung characters are entertaining, but it didn’t quite deliver overall.

Jaws Remastered 2022 RealD 3D

Absolutely brilliant 3D effects, never seen anything like it. I felt like I was there at times. The Orca was coming out the screen. The last 3D film I saw was rubbish but this was next level.

Awesome! I'm going to see this in 2 hours and I was already hyped. :D

Well, Jaws (remastered in 3D) is, as Quint said, excellent. Picture was pin sharp, the soundtrack sounded amazing and the 3D was, in places, jaw dropping.
I absolutely loved it. But I am biased as it was already my favourite film.
