Midway (2019) - 6/10 - During a youtube sessions I found that The History Buffs youtube channel did a two part "historical accuracy" doc on this film and it came across as surprisingly accurate so, despite giving it a miss initially as the CGI just looked awful, I gave it a go based on their recommendation. The story/script/acting was definitely far better than I was expecting from a Roland Emmerich film (it was all OK) but the CGI, as I first thought, is just so terrible for most of the film that it was a definite distraction.

I'd also rewatched the "original" 1976 film which heavily 'borrowed' footage from Tora Tora Tora and was nowhere near as good as it. Comparing both Midway films I think the '76 version had far better acting from a far more 'star packed' cast, a different slant on the overall story (more personal) and the practical effects looked great but neither film was actually very good overall, both just hovering at "OK" for me.

Watched the original Hellboy films over the last couple of nights...got to admit I remember them being better. Second one is better, maybe 5/10 for the first and 7 for the second.

Scream VI (2023) - 8/10

Another great slasher movie which doesn’t really do anything new but does do everything well.

There’s plenty of buildup and tension as the killer toys with their victims, the chase scenes are exhilarating and the kill scenes are gory and violent.

The story’s what you’d expect complete with nostalgia and a meta explanation and the characters have chemistry and their own personalities.

Not as different as it could have been but as long as you suspend belief and go along with it, it’s good entertainment.

Just got back from watching Cocaine Bear. I was born in the early 80s and childhood/teens in the 90s, so I have fond memories of that era, this film is a throwback to the craziness of the 80s and 90s :D.

It's based on a true story, but the characters in this are completely oddball and actually quite likeable lol. Go in with your 80s/90s whacky hat on and it's a complete blast. I can fully see how many "modern" film goers will think wtf about it because it does not conform to the norms they are used to.

I give it a healthy 7.5/10.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Basically the filmic equivalent of LSD. Cannot be rated on a mere numeric scale so I rate it:

Terrapin out of Aubergine. Gonna be a cult movie.
