What film did you watch last night?

In Spain at the moment, there's a limited number of channels that have English audio, so options are limited. We're just watching Batman & Robin... wow, this is a bad movie! It's really bad one liners and terrible delivery. It's kind of like the original TV show of the 60's or 70's...

Joker (2019) - 8/10

Managed to get round to finally watching this movie.

Did the movie live up to the hype? Personally I'd say no but it was a good different take on past Joker performances. Joaquin's performance was good and the build-up leading to end was great.

It was a bit slow for me in general but was a good movie overall.

Security (2016) - 3/10

A bland and mediocre action film which could have done with being a lot more fun and over the top.

Slow to start and with a weak premise, the cast of cliché support characters and incompetent mercenaries only stand out due to the lead actors and even then, their performances aren’t great.

It’s got elements of 'Home Alone' or maybe 'Die Hard' but with twenty-somethings, set in a mall and severely lacking in humour, gore, suspense, or thrilling action scenes.

There’s a few good moments towards the end but nothing truly exciting or engaging.

Avengement (2019) - 7/10

A gritty and brutal British revenge film with plenty of attitude and well put together fight scenes.

It has a simple plot but it’s stylish enough as a celebration of violence, although the noble cause this psychopath picks up in the final act belittles his conviction a bit.

Some gore, dark humour, thought-provoking observations and a short run time keep it entertaining throughout.

Love me some Scott Adkins movies :)

The Revenant (2016) - 8/10

I enjoyed this movie. Good story and great acting from both Leonardo and Tom and I found the ending satisfying.

**Spoiler Alert** That bear fight scene was utterly brutal!

Hidden Strike (2023) - 7/10

A mix of American mercenaries and Chinese Special Ops with a different plot and setting allow for some stunning visuals and interesting sequences.

The special effects are mostly good, especially during the ‘Mad Max’ style vehicular action scenes, and the fast paced acrobatic martial arts make it entertainingly good fun.

It starts off very serious but becomes more and more light-hearted as it goes along before becoming extremely silly at the end.

Chan’s signature style of humour and Cena’s laidback attitude work well together as they both deal with familial commitments and loyalty to their causes, even if the plot and characters don’t really do much after the initial setup.

Lost in Translation

Similar mixed thoughts as when it was first released. On the one hand it seems far-fetched and a bit of a fantasy for older men. Some of the humour falls short and mostly pokes fun at Japanese people. But I like the cinematography, the feeling of liminal space, the aimlessness and disconnection from reality.

7/10

Yea oddly I quite enjoyed this one.

It's about the polar opposite of what I would usually like, but something about it....

Scarlett Johansson is very easy on the eye in that movie as well certainly helps.

Yeah those years she looked great, before doing the cosmetic surgery and false teeth etc.
I don't think she's had that much surgery tbf, she still looks good. But yeah her younger years she looked great.
