What film did you watch last night?

Sound of Freedom - 6/10

The story itself is an 8/10 that's worth a watch, it's just the film itself was a 4/10, it could have been made so much better, giving my avg score of 6/10

Incredible stat at the end of the film that there are now more people in slavery in the world than at any point in history, even during when it was legal (which is a function of there being so many more people in the world, but even so... :()

"Hidden Strike" on Netflix. Jackie Chan and John Cena having fun in a ridiculous action film with a by-the-numbers plot. Amusing enough to pass the time and some of the fight choreography was smart, making good use of Chan's athleticism and Cena's physique. Doesn't take itself too seriously or outstay its welcome.
Nice to see the usual JC blooper reel at the end too.

Meg 2 - 3/10 - Statham pimps himself out to a Chinese film for cash (no issues with that TBH) but, as a huge fan of the novels, this switch from Japanese characters to Chinese just to make China happy (they supply the funding) in the same way as the first film just stands out as a really bad "film" decision (the reason "why" Japanese works so well in the novels was cultural) even if its a better "financial" one in the end.

The film itself is meh, and rather than being about a Shark, it "jumps the shark" when it becomes Die Hard at sea with a set of Mercenaries taking over etc for a solid much of the movie, before the 3rd act sees a wide range of CGI silliness (3 Megs) fight more CGI silliness (snappers, giant octopus etc) whilst someone pretends to be Chris Pratt in Jurassic Park by controlling their "trained" Megalodon with hand signals.

There's only so much stupidity you can cram into one film but this one has easily notched up the silliness levels when the giant Octopus fights a flying helicopter etc. I gave it a higher score than it deserves because I think this could easily become another "The Room" for drunk watch parties laughing at its awfulness.

Tenet - unrated

Too confusing. Got about 45 mins in and gave up. Films for me are supposed to be enjoyable. But this was too fast and too intense to enjoy.

No Time To Die (Bond 25) - 3/10

I look forward to the day when AI is making Bond movies. They couldn't possibly make less sense than this.

Alternates between boring and nonsensical and just plain nonsensical.

It even manages to get worse, and worse, and worse, the longer it goes on. And it's 3 hours (ish) long. By the end it's a blessed relief that it's all over.

Gave up on bond films long ago. Got too ridiculous for me. Outdoing the one before.

Just watched this and completely agree. Much better than expected and turned out to be great fun

The Equaliser 3 - possibly be the last one Denzel does but thoroughly enjoyed it. He shows what's equalising is all about. Quite a simple plot but Denzel turns on the charm and delivers. Sorry for being vague but don't want to spoil it. 8/10 imo.

I had a bit of binge watching last night. A 2 film bluray set, Flags of our fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.
The films are from two perspectives of the same battle, American and Japanese. I was very impressed by both films, the acting was first class and the sound was also first class as well.
When watched one after the other i think these two films are an easy 9/10.

Cobweb 6/10
The Boogeyman 7/10

Watched both back to back with the wife last night.

Cobweb stars Anthony Starr (of Banshee and The Boys fame) and Lizzie Caplan (she blew up in Cloverfield). It was hard to place the timeline on this unless I missed it but I think I spotted an iPhone 6 so around 2014. The film starts off slow with a odd family in a run down house and then gets good towards the end portion. I was expecting more horror than it gave...

The Boogeyman - Now this is more like it! More family drama here and nothing we haven't seen before. It would have been nice to have got more info on the big bad. I'd suggest avoiding the trailer and just jumping right in. I enjoyed this one.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse

Horrible, the opening scenes and some other animation - felt like i was having a seizure.

Some good moments, but overall - pants.

Teenage son enjoyed it though - so maybe an age thing.

Something's Gotta Give

Jack Nicholson on top form and great chemistry with Diane Keaton.

Very much a feel good film starting from the opening music of Crazy Town - Butterfly.

8/10
